NBA Free Agents 2012: Best Fits for Top Remaining Players

Adam WellsJun 7, 2018

In the fast-paced world of NBA free agency, things can and will change so frequently that it is hard to keep up with what is going on.

However, with social media and reporting being what it is today, we at least have a much clearer sense of which teams are at least in on certain players.

That being said, here are the players who have a big decision to make and the best possible fit for them.

Ray Allen

The more I think about Allen, the more I like the idea of him in Miami. If you would have asked me at the end of the season, I would have said that Boston would best utilize his skills.

With Allen visiting Miami, there is certainly mutual interest. Putting Allen's sharp-shooting skills in a lineup that includes slashers like LeBron James and Dwayne Wade will make him even better than he was with the Celtics.

At this stage of his career, Allen has more money than he knows what to do with it. All he has to worry about is going to the best place to win a championship. Miami is the spot for him.

Best Fit: Miami Heat

Raymond Felton

This was an incredibly strong year for point guards on the market, but almost all of the top players have agreed to deals.

Felton still remains, however, though his interest appears to be taking him back to New York, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News

"

Knicks have emerged as favorites to sign Raymond Felton, the Daily News has learned.

Since it doesn't seem like there are any other teams involved in the Felton sweepstakes, the Knicks win by default. That being said, both sides are an excellent fit for each other.

The Knicks need at least one point guard this offseason, though Jeremy Lin's situation will ultimately determine Felton's role. I think he works better as a backup off the bench, but he is good enough to start.

Either way, New York is where Felton belongs.

Best Fit: New York Knicks

O.J. Mayo

Another point guard in the revolving door this offseason, Mayo has his share of suitors right now, with no clear destination leading the pack.

Of all the teams that have been linked to Mayo, the Indiana Pacers make the most sense. This is a franchise that desperately need a point guard, had an opportunity to get one in the draft (Marquis Teague) and chose to go after Miles Plumlee.

The Pacers made huge strides last season, but they are still a few pieces away from being able to compete with the beasts in the East. Mayo is not the perfect player, but he is a better option than anyone else they have right now.

Best Fit: Indiana Pacers
