Manchester City's Potential Lineup for the 2012-13 Season

Raul HingoraniJun 7, 2018

After a successful season in the English Premier League, the noisy Manchester neighbors will be looking to become a dominant force in the league.

In the summer of 2011, Manchester City managed to acquire Argentine forward Sergio Aguero, French defender Gael Clichy and French midfielder, Samir Nasri. Aguero managed to be a huge success, scoring the most goals of any player on the team last season. Nasri and Clichy also had good impacts on the season.

However, this team will still be looking to be improving their squad. They still wish to add more attacking talent to their squad, so this will definitely increase their dominance in the league.

So with all of this in mind, here is a prediction for what Manchester City's starting lineup will look like in the coming season.

Goalkeeper: Joe Hart

1 of 12

Joe Hart has proven in the past couple of seasons for Manchester City and for the English national team that he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

There is no reason why Hart won't start matches in the coming season. He has made huge saves for his club, and it is because of some of his huge saves that Manchester City won the Premier League title.

There isn't anyone else on the team who can play this position like Hart, so he deserves to start.

Right-Back: Pablo Zabaleta

2 of 12

This position was tougher to pick because the two choices are Micah Richards and Pablo Zabaleta. Both players are good right-backs. However, Zabaleta seemed to be the more confident player at the end of the season as he received more playing time than Richards in the end due to Richards' injury.

Zabaleta ended up starting matches toward the end and was able to impact matches even more with Richards unable to play. He even scored one of the three goals in the 3-2 victory against QPR that gave them the Premier League title.

This goal might not mean much, but he is still the one who has played better and impacted the game more than Richards.

Center-Back: Joleon Lescott

3 of 12

Joleon Lescott is another player who has proven his defensive talent in the past season. With Kolo Toure not able to play, Lescott received the opportunity to play more.

He is a big, strong player, and was able to make many good tackles that helped Manchester City achieve success on defense.

His good performances continued on into the Euros, where he even managed to score a goal for the English against France.

There shouldn't be a reason why he won't continue to play well in the coming season, so he deserves to start.

Center-Back: Vincent Kompany

4 of 12

Not much needs to be said here. Kompany is the captain and is one of the team's best players.

He will start, and there isn't any reason why he shouldn't.

Left-Back: Gael Clichy

5 of 12

Gael Clichy is one of the new players at Manchester City. He just arrived last summer from Arsenal and managed to play well in his first season.

He has been effective on offense and defense with his speed. He can keep up with some of the fastest wingers in the league.

The only other option that could be considered for this position is Aleksandar Kolarov, but Clichy is just the better player.

Central Midfielder: Gareth Barry

6 of 12

Gareth Barry is a strong midfielder who can make some great passes. He was a big part of the Manchester City team in the past season, playing in 34 matches out of 38 in the Premier League.

Barry is one of the influential midfield players on the team and should start in the coming season.

Central Midfielder: Yaya Toure

7 of 12

Yaya Toure is also one of Manchester City's best players. He is one of those midfielders who can defend one minute, and will join the attack the next.

He is a strong player and can be considered a train due to his blasting midfield runs. He is also a good shooter; he can shoot from close, and from far outside the box.

He is one of the players who needs to start so that the team can play the way it does on a regular basis.

Right-Winger: David Silva

8 of 12

David Silva is one of the best midfielders in the world.

He is a very technical, crafty midfield maestro and creates chances from nothing. He makes passes that many other players can't.

He is one of the main causes for a big amount of Manchester City's goals.

He was a huge part of Manchester City's past season as he played 36 out of the 38 games.

He is extremely influential in this Manchester City lineup.

Left-Winger: Samir Nasri

9 of 12

Samir Nasri is a talented midfielder. He is a great dribbler, passer and can shoot from close or long distance.

One part of himself that has deteriorated recently is his attitude. He cursed at a French reporter after France's loss to Spain. He will need to improve this attitude if he wants to play well and start for Manchester City.

If he can manage to get himself together, he might have a good season and start in the left wing.

Left Striker: Sergio Aguero

10 of 12

Usually, when a player comes to the Premier League from some other league, it takes some time to adapt to the speed and physicality of the Premier League.

Sergio Aguero managed to do that in his debut match against Swansea. He came on as a substitute and scored two goals and assisted David Silva in the 4-0 victory.

He continued to have his best season yet, and I don't see him getting worse at all.

In fact, he might even win the golden boot if he plays the way he did last season; he was a close contender last season, but just couldn't outscore players like Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney.

Sergio Aguero will start in the coming season.

Right Striker: Robin Van Persie

11 of 12

Robin van Persie recently announced that he will not be extending his contract with Arsenal. In Sky Sports, he said that he did not agree with the way Arsenal's future was heading.

So as a result of this, he will be leaving the club either this summer or next summer.

So, Manchester City could be one of the teams to seal a deal with Arsenal to sign the forward. Juventus is the other team who is interested in signing the forward, but they recently had a proposal rejected by Arsenal. This leaves Manchester City with a bit of time to prepare a proper bid for the striker and agree on a deal.

If the prolific scorer were to join Manchester City, he would almost be guaranteed a starting spot alongside forward Sergio Aguero. There you have two players who scored more than 20 goals in the past season.

That would be one of the most dangerous attacks in the Premier League.

Conclusion

12 of 12

Well, is this squad capable of winning another Premier League title? Will we be seeing Robin van Persie in Manchester City colors?

So, do you think that this is what Manchester City's starting lineup will look like in the coming season?
