Novak Djokovic vs. Roger Federer: Fed Will Rekindle Magic to Defeat Djoker
Roger Federer will not let this opportunity pass him by. There is no Rafael Nadal to thwart this Grand Slam run, and though Novak Djokovic is the world's No. 1 player, he isn't Federer's primary nemesis.
Fed will bounce Djokovic in a semifinal that will feature the two best players in this tournament. He'll march into the actual final to face the winner of the Andy Murray vs. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga match.
Djokovic has gotten the better of Federer recently, but Federer would still rather face him than Nadal.
Fed still owns the overall edge over Djokovic (14-12) in the their head-to-head series. Right now, Federer is playing as well as he has in the last two years. He had one scare in this tournament.
It happened in the third round. Julien Benneteau won the first two sets before Roger turned it on to take the final three.
He's dropped only one set since then, and he's looked more dominant ever since.
Djokovic has been consistent throughout—he's dropped only one set. But this tournament isn't as crucial to him as it is to Federer. This could essentially be Roger's final realistic run at a major.
At 30 years old, he can't expect to play at this level for much longer. Djokovic and Nadal's hold on the top spots in men's tennis will only get stronger, plus there are youngsters like Juan Martin del Potro and contenders like Andy Murray ready to ascend.
With Nadal out, and Federer still better than Murray and Tsonga, the time is now to capture what could be his final Grand Slam.
He must defeat Djokovic to accomplish this, and I believe he will. I predict Federer wins in four sets. If it goes to five, the waters will get murky for Federer.
