Klitschko vs. Thompson: Keys to Victory for Both Fighters

Alex KayMay 31, 2018

Incumbent world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko (57-3, 50 KOs) and challenger Tony Thompson (36-2, 24 KOs) will be squaring off on Saturday night with the title on the line in Switzerland.

This will be the second boxing match between the two brawlers, after Klitschko came out victorious during the initial bout that lasted 11 rounds back in 2008.

Now, four years later, it should be another exciting and epic heavyweight fight.

Here is what each pugilist must do ensure a victory.

Key to Klitschko Victory: Score a knockout

Klitschko is one of the better heavyweight champions because of his ability to simply destroy the competition. He has 50 knockouts in 60 fights and uses his brute strength to absolutely pulverize opponents.

He’s a much more powerful fighter than Thompson and should look for an opening to land a KO blow.

If Wladimir stays on the offensive and continues to pound the challenger, he’s going to get another win under his belt and hold onto the title.

Key to Thompson Victory: Be cautious

Thompson has to fight with his head as much as his body. He cannot exhaust himself and allow Klitschko to land a massive punch while his guard is down.

He’s got the advantage of being a lefty and could potentially throw the champ out of rhythm.

The challenger must limit his attacks and look to score easy points when they become available. He’s not going to outmuscle Klitschko, so Thompson must attempt to make this fight go the duration to win.
