Manchester United Transfer News: United Fight for Van Persie, Back in for Lucas

The tabloids have been running wild with Manchester United-related rumours lately, Sir Alex Ferguson having hinted that more signings were possible yesterday (via manutd.com).

The future of one Robin van Persie has dominated the headlines, with thesun.co.uk suggesting his refusal to hand in a transfer request is in an attempt to force a move to newly crowned champions Manchester City.

However, dailymail.co.uk suggests that Sir Alex is determined to prise the Dutchman away from under the noses of their crosstown rivals, in a move that would certainly further drain the Glazers' pocket.

Quite where he would play, and which of Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Chicharito would lose their place, is not stated.

However, in a turn up for the books, both mirror.co.uk and dailymail.co.uk are in complete agreement over the fact that United have ramped up their interest in Brazilian attacker Lucas Moura.

For those who aren't regular viewers of the Brazilian league, the 19-year-old starlet reminds one of a young Cristiano Ronaldo—capable of incredible things with the ball at his feet, but a player who doesn't yet know when to pass and is known to shoot from all and every angle.

The £35 million fee is also likely to prove a bone of contention if a move is to take place.

Another rumour currently making the rounds links United with Benfica's Axel Witsel in an exchange for the marginalised Anderson (via dailymail.co.uk).

Whilst the Senegalese publication Le Ral seems to believe that Sir Alex will soon make a £25 million move for Newcastle's Demba Ba and Yohan Cabaye (although who Le Ral's inside source is, somewhat unsurprisingly, not stated).
