Liverpool Transfer Rumors: Reds Must Keep Luis Suarez from Leaving for Juventus

Ben ChodosJun 5, 2018

Liverpool must hold on to Luis Suarez, as the Uruguayan is one of the few world-class talents on its roster.

According to David Anderson of Mirror Football, Juventus is looking to pry the striker away from Anfield.

The 25-year-old had 11 goals and three assists in 29 English Premier League appearances for Liverpool this past season. He is a fantastic dribbler and an incredible finisher who is capable of leading the league in goals.

His lack of maturity is a cause for concern and he created significant controversy by directing racist comments at Manchester United’s Patrice Evra. He received an eight-match ban for his disgusting insult.

As is the case with many talented footballers, new Reds boss Brendan Rodgers must take the negatives with the positives in Suarez. The former Swansea manager is supportive of the volatile striker and told talkSPORT’s Alan Brazil and Ronnie Irani the following:

"I’ve had a brilliant chat with Luis. He’s really looking forward to being here and we are obviously hoping that we can get him on to another new contract. He’s really looking forward to the new season."

Rodgers is smart to try and keep Suarez comfortable, as the team will need his services to improve on its eighth-place finish from a season ago.

The team’s defense performed well last season and conceded the fourth-least goals in the Premiership. They struggled to put the ball in the net, though, and 10 teams—including relegated Blackburn—scored more goals than the Reds last season.

Rodgers has attempted to upgrade the team’s attacking options in the midfield by chasing after Gylfi Sigudsson and Clint Dempsey, according to another report from Anderson.

But a new attacking center midfielder would not make much difference if Rodgers’ best attacker bolts for Turin.

The team is desperately trying to upgrade its roster this summer, and it is difficult to see a situation where the Reds are better than they were last season if Suarez is not in the lineup.

If Liverpool is to have any chance at improving its attack and returning to relevance in league play, it must hold on to Suarez.
