Wimbledon 2012 Scores: Top Men's and Women's Finishers
Serena Williams brought her A-game when she needed it today.
In her best performance of the tournament, Williams stumped Petra Kvitova in straight sets (6-3, 7-5). The win lands Williams in the semifinals where she'll take on the winner of Tamira Paszek and No. 2 seeded Victoria Azarenka.
Azarenka is heavily favored, and she has been dominant thus far in the tournament. A Williams-Azarenka semifinal would be an epic battle of skills and nerves.
Both women have let their emotions get the best of them in the past. Poise and composure would likely be the key to victory here—unless the unseeded Paszek throws a monkey wrench into the plans.
Paszek upset No. 7 seed Caroline Wozniacki in the first round, but she's only faced one other seeded player in the tournament since.
Defeating Azarenka will be a very tall task.
On the men's side, the fourth-round matches set up some very intriguing quarterfinal battles.
The No. 5 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga moves on after defeating one of the last two remaining American men, Mardy Fish (4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4). The other remaining American man, Brian Baker, was dispatched by Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets (6-1, 7-6, 6-3).
Now Tsonga will take on Kohlschreiber in the quarterfinals.
No. 4 seed Andy Murray will have his hands full with No. 7 seed David Ferrer. Ferrer has been playing great tennis, and he dropped Juan Martin del Potro in straight sets (6-3, 6-2, 6-3).
He is my dark horse on the men's side, but he'll be going against the hometown favorite in Murray. Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer will be in action tomorrow as the men's quarterfinals begin on Wednesday.
The next rounds will be very exciting, stay tuned for more analysis and coverage.
