Wimbledon 2012 Results: Djokovic vs. Federer Semis Will Be Tourney's Best Match
The 2012 Wimbledon Championships have been nothing short of incredible on the men’s side. However, Rafael Nadal’s early upset in second round against Lukas Rasol eliminated one of three men to have won at All England Club in the last nine years.
That shocking result leaves Roger Federer, the 2003-07 and ’09 winner, and Novak Djokovic, the 2011 champion, as the only two remaining competitors with a real shot to win it all.
Unfortunately, with Djoker seeded No. 1 and the Swiss superstar No. 2, they will be meeting in the semifinals instead of the finals of the tournament.
This means that the men's semis will likely become the best match in the event and will be much more hyped and have more on the line than whoever the winner will advance and face to capture the Grand Slam.
On the other side of the bracket there are still some solid players—notably, David Ferrer, Andy Murray and Philipp Kohlschreiber—but none match up to the sustained culture of greatness that Djokovic and Federer have sustained during their prestigious careers.
While it’s not a lock that those two will meet, as Nole will face Florian Mayer while Federer will be taking on Mikhail Youzhny in the quarterfinals, the odds are extremely likely that the marquee matchup will take place.
Expect all eyes to be on the two when it eventually happens and the match could potentially have more viewers and a bigger buzz surrounding it than the actual finals of the event.
