Wimbledon 2012 Live: When and Where to Watch July 4th Action

Tim DanielsJul 4, 2012

While many people in the United States will be enjoying a day off to celebrate Independence Day, some of the best tennis players in the world will be battling at Wimbledon. Men's quarterfinal action will be taking center stage at the All England Club.

Even though Rafael Nadal was upset earlier in the event, many of the game's other top players are still alive with hopes of capturing the prestigious title. With Olympic play right back on the same courts, it also serves as terrific preparation.

Here's a look at all the important viewing information for Wednesday's action and some players to watch as they attempt to secure a berth in the semifinals.

Players to Watch

The world's top-ranked player will face off with the most surprising member of the final eight, Florian Mayer. The No. 31 seed had a favorable draw, but did defeat Richard Gasquet in the last round to give him a confidence boost heading into the biggest match of his career.

All eyes will be on Djokovic, however. The defending champion has only dropped one set through four rounds, illustrating his dominance once again. When he's playing at his peak, there isn't anybody in the world that can beat him.

He must make sure not to take Mayer lightly, though. Overconfidence is the only thing that can stop him and it would be easy to look ahead toward a possible semifinal matchup with Roger Federer. He must enter the quarterfinal totally prepared for Mayer.

Roger Federer

Even though Federer hasn't won the Wimbledon title since 2009, he's still the current tournament king with six wins at the marquee event. If there were ever a chance for him to get back on track, the grass courts would be a perfect place to start.

Federer had a minor back issue pop up during his match against Xavier Malisse, but it would take a lot more than that to keep him down. He knows his Grand Slam window is slowly closing, so he needs to take advantage of his deep runs.

His opponent will be Mikhail Youzhny. He has never lost a match to the Russian star, compiling a lifetime record of 13-0. As long as Federer's movement isn't impacted by his back, he should make it 14 in a row.

As the old adage goes, if not now, when? Murray is still looking for his first major championship despite spending an extended period of time in the top five. Unfortunately for him, he hasn't been able to break through the big three at a Grand Slam.

However, with Nadal's elimination opening up the draw for him, he has a golden opportunity to finally bring that drought to an end. His journey continues with a clash against David Ferrer, who has been playing really well over the past few months.

The key for Murray will be maintaining his aggressiveness. He's averaging 34 winners per match through four rounds, a sign he's relying less on his defense. Another performance like that will put the fan favorite one step closer to glory.
