Wimbledon 2012: Bold Predictions for Semifinals and Finals Matches
There are still plenty of great things ready to happen at Wimbledon 2012.
Even though the tournament is winding down, plenty of action is still ahead. With the semifinals and finals right around the corner, it's time for some bold predictions.
Some are bolder than others. Given the nature of the tournament, it's always tough to make a bold prediction without being unreasonable. Nevertheless, I've chosen to undertake the arduous task of making these bold predictions.
Check it out.
Andy Murray Will Disappoint Again
1 of 6If Andy Murray makes it to the semifinals, he will be sure to fall short.
He's been shaky so far, but he's gutted out a couple of tough victories. At some point, that's going to catch up to him. Murray has been the overwhelming favorite in each of his matches, but he's been unable to take care of business.
It will help him in the future, but his play doesn't bode well for this year. Once again, Murray will fall short of the final.
Serena Williams Won't Make Another Semifinal
2 of 6After a decent showing at 2012 Wimbledon, Serena Williams will not return to the semifinals again.
She's had an outstanding career, but it's coming to an end. After this particular showing, don't expect Williams to ever return to the Wimbledon semifinals.
The All England Club has been kind to her, but her run is over. It was nice to see her play well one final time because that's what it truly was.
Roger Federer Will Have a Poor Showing
3 of 6Roger Federer should make the semifinals, but he's going to be embarrassed by Novak Djokovic.
Federer is trying to make a final run at Wimbledon, but it won't be this year. He's still a good player, but he isn't playing nearly well enough to match up with Djokovic. Considering his back issues, Federer won't even be at full strength for the rest of the tournament.
He will most likely face Djoker in the semis, and he will get blown out. If he's lucky, he'll steal a set. Otherwise, it'll be a destruction.
Angelique Kerber Will Make Her First Grand Slam Final
4 of 6Angelique Kerber made it to the semifinals of Wimbledon last year, and she's on pace for an even better showing.
After knocking off Sabine Lisicki, who defeated Maria Sharapova, Kerber is in great shape to make the final. If she continues to play well, she should be able to qualify for her first ever Grand Slam final.
The women's bracket has been pretty wide open from the beginning, and one player just needs to catch fire. Kerber knocked off Christina McHale and Kim Clijsters without any trouble. Then she overcame a tough second set to defeat Lisicki. At this rate, she's looking like she can beat anyone.
At some point, Kerber will run out of steam. However, it won't happen until the final.
Victoria Azarenka Will Win Her Second Grand Slam This Year
5 of 6With Maria Sharapova out of the way, Victoria Azarenka is the highest remaining seed.
With that said, she isn't necessarily the favorite because of the other great players. However, she will find a way to win her first Wimbledon title. She's been dominant so far, and she hasn't shown any signs of stopping.
She's ready to reclaim her No. 1 ranking, and a great performance at the All England Club will do just that.
Novak Djokovic Will Not Lose Multiple Sets
6 of 6Novak Djokovic is on a tear.
He's only lost one set so far, and he will only lose one more set, if that. He should role through his quarterfinal, and if he faces Roger Federer, he will lose a set. After that, Djoker will continue his dominance in the final.
He's frustrated after losing the French Open, and he's ready to solidify his position as the best player in the world. Djokovic is dominating right now, and he will continue that run to his second Wimbledon title.
