Wimbledon 2012 Schedule: Day 8 TV Coverage, Matches and Bracket Guide
Serena Williams and Petra Kvitova will battle one another on Day 8 at Wimbledon, and their blockbuster match headlines the schedule as we move into the second half of this prestigious tournament.
There have been a ton of big upsets so far at the All English Club this year, as some of the world's top players have already been ousted. Players like Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova and Kim Clijsters are no longer in contention, but that means that others can rise to the challenge to take center stage.
There are plenty of other excellent matches to watch for on Day 8, and this handy bracket guide and TV schedule will help you keep track of it all.
Bracket Guide
Ladies' Bracket
The match between Williams and Kvitova is going to be the biggest one of the day on either side.
Kvitova is last year's winner, and Williams is a four-time champion. To be honest, it's a shame that these two are going up against one another here in the quarterfinals instead of in the women's final.
The two stars have a limited history with one another, having only faced off two times in the past. Williams has gotten the better of Kvitova on both occasions—one of which came here at Wimbledon.
Next up on the ladies' side is a matchup of Germany's finest.
Sabine Lisicki and Angelique Kerber will go against one another in a quarterfinals matchup that we never saw coming.
Lisicki fresh off her upset over world No. 1 Sharapova, and she'll look to ride her momentum into the semifinals. Her task is a tall one, though, as she's never beaten her German rival in a one-on-one matchup.
World No. 2 player Victoria Azarenka will take on Tamira Paszek in what should be a one-sided match in her favor. Stranger things have happened this year on the ladies' side, though, so don't count out Paszek to pull off another upset.
Finally, World No. 3 player Agnieszka Radwanska will go up against No. 17 ranked Maria Kirilenko of Russia. The ladies' bracket is full of unknown outcomes, and it's going to be interesting to see which players come away victorious.
Men's Bracket
The ladies will dominate the action on Day 8, but there are still some excellent matches on the men's side to keep track of.
Britain's golden boy, Andy Murray, will take on Marin Cilic on Court 1 in their fourth-round matchup. The two have battled one another six times in the past, with Murray taking five of the matches. He'll have the home crowd on his side, too, and I expect him to move on.
Center Court has been reserved for a matchup between two top-10 players, Juan Martin del Potro and David Ferrer. These two men have also met one another six previous times, with Ferrer winning four of those encounters.
Ferrer is my choice to move on to the quarterfinals, but del Potro is more than capable of beating him if his game isn't up to snuff.
Finally, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Mardy Fish will hit the court to determine which of them moves on to the quarterfinals after their match was put on hold. Fish took the first set, and Tsonga has his work cut out for him if he hopes to keep playing.
Day 8 Matches to Watch
The Williams vs. Kvitova match is the biggest one of the day, and these two ladies will push one another to the limit.
Williams is my favorite to win the whole thing, so I'm pulling for her. Kvitova won't go quietly, though, and this match should be exciting to watch from the get-go.
The other match that I'll be watching is the one between del Potro and Ferrer. Since Nadal's early exit, the bottom half of the men's draw has been wide open, and with Tsonga struggling against Fish, one of them will likely face either Roger Federer or Novak Djokovic in the final.
