NBA Free Agents 2012: Latest Signing Buzz from Around the League

Tim KeeneyJun 7, 2018

Hectic is a good way to describe the first two days of NBA free agency, but things are just getting started.

There have already been huge trades, huge over-payments and huge headaches caused by none other than Mr. Dwight Howard

But one thing is certain. As teams continue to start the tanking process a little early this season or as teams try to establish their own "Big Three," the rumors aren't going to stop.

Let's take a look at the latest buzz surrounding the biggest available names.

Mavericks Woo Deron Williams

On Monday, the Dallas Mavericks met with free agent Deron Williams in an effort to convince him to sign with them.

According to ESPN's Jeff Caplan, the Mavs brought the big guns: Donnie Nelson, Rick Carlisle and Michael Finley were all a part of the Williams meeting.

Of course, at about the same time the Mavs were wooing Williams, the Nets were bringing in reinforcements in the form of Joe Johnson from the Atlanta Hawks. Now D-Will gets to choose if he wants to play with Dirk and company in Dallas or Johnson and company in Brooklyn.

Also according to ESPN, Jason Kidd, who is also a free agent, will wait to start his "recruitment" until Williams makes a decision.

Golden State's Short-Lived Dwight Crush

The Warriors were interested in Dwight Howard, who becomes a free agent in 2013. And now they aren't again.

According to owner Joe Lacob (via NBA.com's Scott Howard-Cooper), the Warriors won't pursue Howard, which is a smart move considering the likelihood of signing him past this season would be small.

Yay, Warriors.

Marcus Camby's Future

One of the bigger free agents (literally) circling the rumor mill on Monday was Marcus Camby.

According to HOOPSWORLD's Alex Kennedy, there is interest from all over the league, but nothing close to a deal:

"

The New York Knicks are said to be interested, but Camby wants to start, and that won’t happen with Tyson Chandler in New York. Camby also has interest in playing for Miami, but would want their entire $3 million exception, and Miami would prefer to use that on more than one player. Meanwhile, Jonathan Feigen at the Houston Chronicle reports that Houston is Camby’s preferred destination, and the Rockets clearly have a need at starting center. Some reports have Camby interested “despite” the Asik offer sheet, which is odd. There’s no chance Asik starts, not if Houston is hoping to make the playoffs next season.

"

In just 22.9 minutes per game this season with the Blazers and Rockets, Camby averaged 4.9 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. He could really be a steal if the worries about his age and injury problems prevent him from getting paid.
