Alabama Football Recruiting: Tide Can't Let Georgia Sway Nation's No. 2 Prospect

Andrew KulhaMay 31, 2018

The Alabama Crimson Tide may have the commitment of Reuben Foster, the No. 1 linebacker prospect in the nation and No. 2 overall prospect, but it appears as if they have to do some work to keep the Georgia Bulldogs from luring him away.

Without a doubt, Foster is the best linebacker prospect in the 2013 class. He's got a great mixture of fundamentals, raw talent and athleticism that makes him incredibly dangerous as a defender.

He has great reads, a strong first step and hits the hole like a freight train. He's able to deliver huge hits, but at the same time he's precise and fundamental as he wraps up on the ball carrier.

It's truly great to see out of a young linebacker.

Foster is also very versatile though. He can play in a two or three point stance, he can get up on the line of scrimmage and play a 6-technique and you can also find film of him breaking off huge plays as a running back.

No wonder everybody wants him on their team...

The Crimson Tide were the lucky ones to come away with Foster's commitment, but we all know that a lot can change real fast in the college football recruiting world, especially with other programs putting their best foot forward during visits.

The Crimson Tide probably should feel a bit concerned about Foster's second trip to Georgia.

According to Fletcher Page of Scout.com, he appears to really like it there:

"

Foster was firm when asked about his status regarding Alabamaโ€”he is still committed. But Georgia continues to give Foster pause.

โ€œItโ€™s everything about Georgia,โ€ he said. โ€œThe fans, the coaches, the playersโ€”everything. Iโ€™m a Georgia boy. Iโ€™m from Alabama originally, but I was raised in Georgia. Iโ€™m a Georgia boy.โ€

Foster has decided to take five official visits this fall and then will make his recruitment final sometime thereafter.

In the immediate future, he plans to return to Georgia at least one more time this summer.

โ€œI donโ€™t know when, but I will be back,โ€ he said.

"

While this isn't the best thing for Alabama to hear (okay, that may be an understatement), they do have to remember what they have to offer.

They need to make sure Foster remembers that as well.

They are the defending national champions coming off a season that saw their defense only give up an average of 8.2 points per game.

Four of their players went in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft, three of those being defenders, and they are coached by arguably one of the best in the gameโ€”Nick Saban.

In time, Alabama would provide Foster with the chance to play on a team that always gets national attention, which in turn would give him national attention if he plays up to his potential. Being a linebacker at Alabama also looks pretty good on a resume as far as the NFL is concerned as of late.

Alabama's prestige in the college football world speaks for itself, but now they need to make sure that their top recruit isn't swayed. They need to make sure he knows exactly what he would be leaving if he decided to officially commit somewhere else.
