Oklahoma Football Recruiting: 4-Star OT Gives Sooners Massive Help

Andrew KulhaJun 1, 2018

If you truly cannot teach size—which you can't—then the Oklahoma Sooners have gotten themselves quite a gem in the form of new offensive tackle commit Matt Beyer, according to Bob Przybylo of ESPN's Sooner Nation.

In college football recruiting, especially with offensive and defensive linemen, the one thing that stands out more than anything else is the size of the players. Their skills could be shaky, their technique could need some polishing, and their knowledge of the game could be a bit weak, but if they're big—you can coach 'em up.

The good news for Sooners fans is that with Beyer, they appear to be getting both size and skill.

According to Przybylo, Beyer had to wait four months to receive an offer from Oklahoma, but a good spring may have really helped him to prove himself:

"

He visited the OU campus for junior day in February, but it would take another four months before he would receive an offer from the Sooners.

Beyer injured his back last summer and there were concerns about his health. However, Beyer silenced those critics with a solid spring, and the offer list grew with each week. Entering last week, the four schools Beyer had been talking to the most were OU, Oregon, Oklahoma State and Baylor.

"

When all is said and done, this will be a huge commit for the Sooners, both literally and figuratively.

Beyer is the perfect size to become a dominant college football tackle at 6'6'', 275 pounds, and with the proper training and coaching, the sky is literally the limit for the young man. As far as the recruiting class is concerned, Beyer joins fellow 2013 commit Dalton Rodriguez, who comes in, himself, at 6'6'', 258 pounds.

Przybylo's report also states that the Sooners will go after one more offensive tackle for this class.

With those two big men, plus a potential third, huge things are in store for the future of the Oklahoma Sooners football program.
