Dwight Howard: Will The Man Of Steel, Steal Your Heart?
The 2009 NBA Sprite Slam Dunk field is set. Will Dwight Howard will dawn the cape and defend his title?
Just hours before the competition, many wait and wonder what is in store tonight on a special Valentine's Day edition of the All-Star Saturday Night in the NBA.
Among the competitors are Howard of the Orlando Magic, Rudy Fernandez of the Portland Trial Blazers, J.R. Smith of the Denver Nuggets and Nate Robinson of the New York Knicks.
Last year, Howard was every one's 'kryptonite' as he soared just inches from the free throw line and then it looked as if, for a second, his body became horizontal in the air as his red cape flapped, and he slammed it home.
Fernandez plans to do something along the lines of an ally-oop to get the job done in his first ever attempt at this competition.
Smith and Robinson will be making their second attempts at winning the contest, but many think that they don't have a chance against Howard.
As far as what Howard will do tonight?, expect the unexpected, always.
With it being Valentines Day here in the US, I think it would be a waste not to do something on your final dunk that has something to do with the holiday.
The only thing I can think of, as bad as it sounds, is one of the players, maybe Howard, dawn two wings as if they were cupid and fly through the air.
Another option, which would be more likely, is a rose theme dunk. As hard as it would be, imagine if Howard got just enough air to put a rose in his mouth that was on the rim and dunk the ball. The U.S. Airways Arena would turn upside down.
Tonight in Arizona, you may fall in love with a dunk, or you may have your heart broken forever.
