Sin Cara: How He's Back on Track to Being a Top Guy in WWE

Sebastian MaldonadoMay 31, 2018

Sin Cara is slowly getting back on track to becoming a top guy.

After he blew out his knee at Survivor Series, many deemed Cara a bust.  He just couldn’t gain momentum expected of him by the WWE.

Cara botched many moves, and opponents couldn't keep up with his fast-paced style.

However, Cara’s return is projecting signs of the superstar WWE signed last year.  His matches have improved, and his merchandise still sells.

Even though Cara must work his way up again from the bottom again, he’s showing signs of improvement.

5. Crowd Reaction

Sin Cara still gets a good reaction from the crowd.

The “WWE Universe” welcomed him back on SmackDown June 1, when he beat Heath Slater.

Cara has slowly gotten a nice reaction.  The fans have grown to love him ever since his return.

The ovations become and continue to become louder every time he enters the ring.

While some adults may be split on whether to cheer or boo Cara, el Luchador is clearly a fan favorite with kids.

4. Work Ethic

Sin Cara has gotten better with his move set and execution.

He apparently got rid of the C4, a top-rope somersault side slam, from his arsenal.

Cara now does a head scissors takedown.  He drives his opponent face-first into the mat instead of the opponent landing on his back.

Sin Cara also finishes in a submission position, ready to lock in the fujiwara armbar if necessary.

The quick superstar also worked in a back spring elbow, showing shades of former WWE wrestler Tajiri.

His move set is expanding, which will most definitely help Sin Cara in his quest to the top of the WWE.

3. Popularity

Sin Cara returned to a lukewarm reaction, though his popularity has remained intact with children.

Kids show up to WWE events in Sin Cara masks.

The WWE also promotes his merchandise and currently offers a new t-shirt for Cara.

Sin Cara bonds with kids like Rey Mysterio, although Mysterio has the better connection with fans overall.  But Sin Cara can grow and capitalize by connecting with his fans even more.

Before his injury, Sin Cara was a top seller in the WWE.  There’s no reason why Cara cannot achieve that goal again.

2. Match Quality

4 of 5

Sin Cara needs to improve on the length of his matches.

Cara’s style is fast-paced, making his matches average roughly five minutes.  Because of his style, he moves very quickly, making successful comebacks.

However, he seems to model his comebacks like Mysterio and John Cena.  It’s classic storytelling, but it becomes a tired routine after a while.

A way to improve other than length is to tell a different story.  Let’s see a dominant side of Sin Cara without him coming from behind to win his matches.

Don’t change his style.  Let him still move around the ring.  Simply change the pacing.

Once Sin Cara is involved in a more established match, WWE officials can take him seriously again.

1. Opponents

5 of 5

Sin Cara has worked with a string of good wrestlers.

He came back defeating Heath Slater on June 1.  He then beat Drew McIntyre the week after.  Cara then made his return to pay-per-view at last month’s No Way Out, defeating Hunico in a well-paced match.

His match with Hunico was his longest since his return. Those two work so well together.

Sin Cara needs to have more wrestlers that bring out the best in him, as well as Cara bringing out the best of his opponents.

Last year, he had great quick matches with Daniel Bryan.  Imagine the matches they could have now.

Sin Cara could take on veterans in the mid-card, such as Cody Rhodes.  He could even challenge Christian for the Intercontinental Title.

Sin Cara can shine in the WWE.  He just needs to fight the right opponents.
