Chelsea Transfer Rumors: Blues Looking to Sign Maicon from Inter

Joe TanseyJun 7, 2018

Chelsea's summer spending is far from over and the next target on Roman Abramovich's summer wish list is Inter right-back Maicon.

A Football Italia article (via Sky Sport Italia) states that the 30-year-old Brazilian is next in line to take part in the new era at Stamford Bridge under Roberto di Matteo.

Maicon has been the right-back of choice at the San Siro since his move from Monaco in 2006 and now could be the right-back of choice right away at Stamford Bridge.

With the Jose Bosingwa era at right-back finally over and Paulo Ferreira relegated to bench duty for the time being, the position is open.

Both Bosingwa and Ferreira came to the club from Porto and did not do as well as they were supposed to, as they just became squad players in the end.

Now, with a right-back position to fill and a transfer budget that apparently has no limits this summer, if you base it on the current transfers Chelsea have already brought in, it is time for Abramovich and di Matteo to bring in a quality right-back.

The potential signing of Maicon would let Branislav Ivanovic move back into the center of defense to give the Blues four solid options at the position along with David Luiz, Gary Cahill and John Terry.

Maicon would join Eden Hazard and Marko Marin as the newest faces to come into West London this summer.

The 30-year-old would also add to the Brazilian contingent at Stamford Bridge with David Luiz, Ramires and 18-year-old Lucas Piazon already at the club.

Maicon made 28 appearances for Inter in all competitions last season, his fewest amount of appearances in his six seasons with the Serie A club.

Maicon has also earned 66 caps for Brazil since 2003 and has won two Copa America titles and two FIFA Confederations Cups while playing for his country.
