Brett Favre Tells The Jets He Will Retire.
Is Favre really done? I think so. This season, he really didn't play that well. Yes, he got to the Pro Bowl. But that is because it is Brett Favre. HE could throw 100 interceptions and one Touchdown all season and probably get there.
Last season, you could tell he didn't want to walk away from the game. Now you can see that he is ready. He had a couple injuries, his arm just wasn't the same, and his name was on the back of the wrong jersey.
Favre spent all but two seasons as a Green Bay Packer. He spent his rookie season as an Atlanta Falcon, then was traded to Green Bay. 16 years later, he was traded to the Jets. Favre put up 65,1287 yards and 464 touchdowns during his great career.
Last season with the Jets though, he had 22 touchdowns with 22 interceptions. Later in the season, he hurt his throwing arm. That's when he new it was time to call it quits.
So now what? What do the Jets do now?
Well, they have three options. One, they could use someone on their roster. Kellen Clemens, Erik Ainge, and Brett Ratliff. All of them combined have eight career starts...all coming from Clemens. The Jets don't feel like Clemens is ready to be their franchise quarterback, but the Jets like Brett Ratliff a lot.
They could use of those, or they could pick up a quarterback from free agency. Who would fit in? Someone with a strong arm. Kerry Collins, Jeff Garcia, or Byron Leftwich could be picked up.
They could also trade for one. Derek Anderson would fit nicely into the Jets, and new head coach Rex Ryan could bring in the quarterback he watched let go to the Cleveland Browns. Or maybe they could bring in Matt Cassell? Don't count on it. The Jets and Patriots don't like helping each other out, so if Cassell was to be traded somewhere, it wouldn't be to the New York Jets.
They could also look into the draft. They have the 17th pick in the draft, which a QB could be available to them like USC's Mark Sanchez or Kansas Sate's Josh Freeman.

So what would happen if Favre did come back? Would he play for the Jets? Probably not. The Jets are going to revolve this team around whatever quarterback they decide to use. Just like the Packers did, they'd look to trade him away.
