Mayweather Jr. vs Cotto II at MSG Arena Already Reserved for December 1

Vitali SJun 7, 2018

Rumors are never in shortage when it comes to boxing—especially rumors surrounding certain names, such as Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and their respective opponents.

Their theoretical future opposition sometimes changes half a dozen times before something is signed and set.

We have been hearing that Manny Pacquiao wants to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr., while some say there is a strong probability that he will face Juan Manuel Marquez for the fourth time, and others claim that a rematch with Timothy Bradley will be his next ring appearance.

As far as Floyd Mayweather Jr., we have not heard much lately. They only news that have been surfacing is regarding his jail sentencing and updates surrounding that aspect of his life.

That was until today. There is now a strong rumor from FightNews.com stating that Mayweather Jr. vs. Cotto II is pretty much set in stone and will be officiated as soon as Money is out of jail.

The date is being set for December 1, 2012, at the Madison Square Garden arena in New York. This would be a blockbuster event, as Cotto has a tremendous army of fans in New York, and it would also be a treat to see Mayweather Jr. fight outside of his hometown of Las Vegas, Nevada.

After losing some of his planned opponents, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez wanted Cotto as his next foe, but Cotto rejected that offer. I assume that he got offered a hefty paycheck to fight Alvarez and had refused for a very good reason that we are yet to discover.

If the fight between Mayweather Jr. and Cotto gets inked, then it is safe to assume two things: Manny Pacquiao will likely face Bradley toward the end of the year, and the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Jr. fight would likely take place in the summer of 2013.

Let’s see what happens!
