Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Reportedly Moving Closer to Stevan Jovetic Deal

Dan TalintyreJun 7, 2018

Chelsea are reportedly moving closer to a deal with Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic, who has been strongly linked to the club over the transfer window.

According to the Daily Star and Italian media outlets, the European club champions would only need an offer of £25 million to secure the services of the striker next season.

Chelsea were believed to have had a bid of £20 million for Jovetic rejected by the club earlier in the transfer window, but will most likely increase that bid if £25 million is all it takes to meet the buy-out clause in the striker's contract.

Both Juventus and Napoli are also interested in the striker, but with Napoli unable to offer Champions League football and already missing their key striker from last season, are unlikely to challenge for Jovetic—who is likely to steer away from all other Serie A teams, including Juventus.

That puts Chelsea in a strong-position for the striker and the most likely landing spot for the 22-year-old, should he make a move over the summer.

Jovetic finished the season with the highest average match rating for his club—leading the team in goals and ranking top three in assist for the season—highlighting his worth to the Italian side who finished well down the Serie A ladder.

Chelsea have already secured the services of Eden Hazard for next season, as well as Marko Marin and have the attacking talent once more to be a threat not just in the English Premier League, but right throughout Europe as they seek to repeat their UEFA Champions League success.

This must be appealing for Jovetic, who would no doubt flourish for the Blues with the plethora of attacking talent he would be surrounded with.

The Blues are still looking for a striker to replace Didier Drogba at Stamford Bridge and are also rumored to be in the process of negotiating a deal with Porto striker Hulk.

However, with Hulk believed to cost the Blues around £40 million, Jovetic could turn out to be the marquee striker that they end up securing for next season—particularly if negotiations between Chelsea and Porto continue to struggle.

Jovetic, Hulk or someone else. Who should Chelsea pursue?
