Naming the 4-Team College Football Playoff: Some Meaningful Suggestions
When you bring home a new pet, there are a few major questions that need to be answered.
“Where will it poop?” is a big one, and probably one you should solve before the animal sets foot in the house. Seriously, do this. Right behind putting down the newspaper is, “What should we name it?”
A name can say quite a bit. In fact, it can shape the perception of a furry creature altogether. Although there’s a significant difference between a puppy battling potty training and a new playoff system for college football [insert your finest joke here], the task of characterizing something with a title still takes on the same process.
And so we are tasked with creating a name for college football’s four-team playoff, which as ESPN's Heather Dinich reports, is more or less set in stone. Well, maybe not us specifically, or perhaps we’ll actually have this opportunity.
Either way, “BCS” is out and something has to replace it.
I’ve reached out to some of college football’s best-known personalities and conferences and received some suggestions in regards to potential playoff names. I feel like there are at least a few winners in here, although it’s clear that the posturing will continue through the next process.
