Florida Football: Latest Summer News and Recruiting Updates

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

The Florida Gators return the majority of their team, including 10 players on the defensive side of the ball, in 2012. The goal for this team is to compete in the SEC and possibly come out of the East to reach the SEC Championship Game.

As for the 2013 recruiting class, Florida has already snagged 18 recruits, at least nine of which are 4-star players. However, when it comes to recruiting, you never settle for what you have and always look to improve the overall class.

Here are some of the latest updates for your Florida Gators football team.

Ebenezer Ogundeko Sets a Date

1 of 5

Florida had to go all the way to Brooklyn, NY to get on the radar of Ebenezer Ogundeko, but there is a good chance it will pay off.

The 4-star defensive end, who stands 6'3" and 229 pounds, has a ton of athletic ability and could very well develop into a speed rusher off the edge for the Gators.

After visiting a long list schools, Ogundeko is only considering Florida, Notre Dame and Syracuse. He has even set a date for when he will make his commitment official.

"I'm going to announce July 20 at the Aviator Sports complex in Brooklyn," he told Scout.com.

There will be no more visits from the defensive end; it is just a matter of waiting at this point.

Florida Really Wants Jordan Sherit

2 of 5

Jordan Sherit is one of the better defensive ends in this year's class and would be a perfect fit for this Florida defense.

With his size and athletic ability at 6'4" and 223 pounds, he would fit a linebacker or defensive end position quite nicely. He has offers on the table from several top schools, but says he knows which school really wants him (via Scout.com):

“I might come back for Friday Night Lights. I like that they are recruiting me the hardest and I have developed a great relationship with Coach Muschamp.”

The 4-star recruit has already checked out Gainesville three times this year. I think the feeling is mutual.

Demarcus Robinson Puts Florida in Top 5

3 of 5

Florida has already added two solid wide receivers in the class of 2013, but there is always room for more. This time, it's wideout Demarcus Robinson.

After his recent trip to Florida, the receiver included the Gators among the top five schools he is considering (via Scout.com):

"

Florida is in my top five with Oklahoma, South Carolina, Notre Dame, and Clemson. I will be visiting Clemson soon and I have already visited Notre Dame. I may visit Oklahoma officially and I think I might visit South Carolina this summer.

"

Robinson is a bigger receiver at 6'2" and 200 pounds. He has terrific hands and runs excellent routes. He also recently ran the 40-yard dash in the 4.3-4.4 range.

He is expected to take all five of his official visits and will likely make a decision sometime in December.

Laremy Tunsil Likes Florida

4 of 5

With a lack of depth on the offensive line, the Florida Gators could certainly use a player such as offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil. He has a big frame already at 6'6" and 295 pounds, and is excellent in pass protection. He has great footwork, long arms and is somebody who could help contribute right away.

As of right now, the 5-star recruit has Alabama, Georgia and Florida as his top three schools, according to Scout.com. He has visited all three, but plans on taking official visits to other schools such as USC, LSU and Ole Miss.

That being said, Tunsil had nothing but good things to say about his February visit to Florida (via Scout.com):

"The atmosphere there is crazy. It is like the people are on top of the field and I love all the hype. I also like how the team works for Coach [Will] Muschamp - They work hard, play hard, and I like that."

Shaq Wiggins Is Still a Bulldogs

5 of 5

Shaq Wiggins is one of the top cornerbacks in this year's class and is a player that any defense would love to have. While he has already given the Georgia Bulldogs his commitment, he has checked out other schools such as Florida and Ole Miss, according to ESPN.

That being said, there's no reason to get too excited, as Wiggins has said he is still a Bulldog at heart (via Scout.com):

"Right now I am still 100% commit to Georgia. My interest in other schools? Examples would be Ole miss and Florida – they are high. I am just taking another look at certain schools I've never seen before."

Is this just a recruit doing his homework, or is he beginning to have cold feet about his commitment? Only time will tell.
