Georgia Football: The Latest Recruiting Updates

Randy ChambersJun 7, 2018

The Georgia Bulldogs return the key players on offense and nine starters on defense, which is a good enough reason why they're one of the favorites in the SEC and a solid dark-horse candidate for the national championship. This should be a very exciting season for the 'Dogs in the SEC East.

But while fans in Athens are chomping at the bit for the season to start, there is plenty of recruiting news to follow as well.

Here are the latest updates.

Decision Coming Soon for Josh McNeil

1 of 5

Josh McNeil is a 4-star tight end who has offers from programs such as Notre Dame, Ohio State and LSU. However, he said he has narrowed his choices to two schools and will make his decision official on July 7.

"

I am down to Georgia and Alabama. I feel relieved. I feel like the pressure is off and I can concentrate on myself now. They were the two schools that stuck out the most and the two places where I felt the most comfortable. They are both equal right now. (Via Scout.com)

"

McNeil says he loves the offense Georgia runs, the chance to compete at a high level and the opportunity for immediate playing time. He is a big target at 6'5", 226 pounds and is about as sure-handed a tight end as you are going to find in this year's class.

Shaq Wiggins Is Still a Bulldog

2 of 5

Shaquille Wiggins has committed to the Georgia Bulldogs, but is not done looking at other schools. While this may concern many Bulldog fans, the 4-star cornerback says it is just business. As of right now, he is staying true to Georgia.

"

Right now I am still 100 percent committed to Georgia. My interest in other schools? Examples would be Ole Miss and Florida—they are high. I am just taking another look at certain schools I've never seen before. (Via Scout.com)

"

Wiggins, a shutdown corner, has recently checked out Florida. But he is also helping in recruiting other players to Georgia. So don't put too much stock in him visiting other schools, until he says otherwise, of course.

Is Georgia Still in the Running for Davin Bellamy?

3 of 5

Davin Bellamy is an athletic defensive end who could help improve any defensive line. He has a long frame at 6'5", 225 pounds and he gets off the ball in a hurry. This is somebody who can contribute right away for any team.

His final three are Florida State, Vanderbilt and Georgia, and he is expected to visit all three once again before he makes his decision on August 1. But while Georgia may still be in the running, it does not seem like the 4-star recruit is too high on them.

"

When I went to UGA last week, I had a good conversation with Mark Richt and the defensive coordinator. They had everything laid out for me, a great presentation. I definitely think if UGA was recruiting me this hard three months ago, UGA would be the leader. (Via ESPN)

"

Bellamy went on to say that Georgia seemed a little distant. He said the Bulldogs were the first school to recruit him, but one of the last to extend an offer.

Has that rubbed the defensive end from Chamblee, Ga., the wrong way? The Bulldogs will have one last opportunity to try to land him.

Georgia Still Has a Shot to Land Brendan Langley

4 of 5

At 6'1" and 186 pounds, Brendan Langley is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the 2013 class. His athleticism, versatility and playmaking ability make him a valuable recruit. But the 4-star player out of Marietta, Ga., has seemed to put Georgia on the back-burner, according to reports.

The good news is that Langley says he has never counted out Georgia, saying they are still in the running for his services.

"

I do like them more now after figuring out what was going on, but it doesn't bring them any further up my list. I just have to keep looking around, talking to coaches and trying to figure out which school is the right one for me. (Via Scout.com)

"

He is also considering Alabama, Tennessee and Florida, and is expected to make his decision on August 25.

Is Chris Sanders Planning a Comeback?

5 of 5

Cornerback Chris Sanders was one of three players to be kicked off the team because of the theft accusations last season. Sanders, who was a 4-star recruit, has enrolled at Georgia Military College, but plans to eventually come back to Athens.

"

I hope to be done by December. Georgia has said I have a chance to come back, but it is not guaranteed. There is a process they have to go through, so I am just going to remain patient and see everything through. I plan on leaving GMC with a better attitude, taking some of the stuff I have learned here and hopefully passing it on to others at UGA if I can. (Via ESPN)

"

Sanders played in three games as a freshman last season, finishing with two tackles.
