AT&T National 2012: 4 Golfers to Watch at Congressional

Daniel ZhuJun 27, 2012

This week, the top players in the world on the PGA Tour are teeing it up at the Congressional Country Club for the AT&T National Championship.

Tiger Woods is in the field, and both he and Hunter Mahan will go in search of their third victory on tour this year.

Defending champion Nick Watney is teeing it up as well, as he looks to take this venue once again.

Let's take a look at a few players who have a good shot at walking away with the trophy.

Hunter Mahan

1 of 4

Hunter Mahan has two wins under his belt this season. This week, he's teeing it up at Congressional in search of his third.

For the past few weeks, Mahan has been struggling a bit. He recorded a T. 38 finish at the U.S. Open, and finished tied for 11th last week at the Travelers Championship.

It's definitely not Hunter Mahan golf, but overall he is a solid player from tee to green, which is why you must watch out for him.

If Mahan can shoot four stellar rounds under par, he'll walk away with the trophy.

Tiger Woods

2 of 4

Tiger Woods has been copying most of what he did in his 2009 season.

In 2009, Woods won the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Memorial Tournament and then the AT&T National Championship.

It's now 2012, and Tiger has won both Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus' events again.

He's now teeing it up to hopefully repeat history, and follow the same path he took in 2009.

Woods played two solid rounds of golf at the U.S. Open. He just needs to piece it all together and play four good rounds, and he'll win.

Nick Watney

3 of 4

Nick Watney will be looking to defend his title at the AT&T National Championship this week.

Watney has been struggling all season long with two missed cuts and no wins for his resume.

He missed the cut at the Memorial Tournament and then made a subpar T. 21 showing at the U.S. Open.

At Congressional, Watney is now looking to bounce back. With a pretty consistent game, it wouldn't be surprising to find him sitting atop the leaderboard.

Jim Furyk

4 of 4

After a disappointing loss at the U.S. Open, Jim Furyk is teeing it up this week at Congressional Country Club, hoping to make up for his defeat.

So far, he's had a pretty solid season overall. Two top-five finishes in his last three starts isn't too shabby for the 42-year-old veteran.

If Furyk can bring the same game he had at the U.S. Open to Congressional, expect him to pull off a victory this week.
