Wimbledon 2012 Schedule: Day 3 TV Coverage, Matches and Bracket Guide

Rob GoldbergJun 26, 2012

As the days go by at Wimbledon, the matches only start getting more exciting as the competition grows.

The first round has already seen its share of surprises. Sixth-seeded Tomas Berdych lost in straight sets to Ernests Gulbis, although each set went to a tiebreaker. John Isner, possibly the American with the best chance coming in, also fell in the first round to Alejandro Falla.

On the women's side of the tournament, the biggest shocker was the loss by former champion Venus Williams. She lost in straight sets to Elena Vesina.

The big question, however, is whether anyone can defeat one of the players at the top.

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal have met in the finals of the last four Grand Slam tournaments. It would take a pretty large upset for anyone else, including Roger Federer, to win this tournament.

Maria Sharapova has not been anywhere near as dominant as the No. 1 player in the world, but she has the momentum from the French Open and should be the favorite for the rest of the championship.

Bracket Guide

For the full bracket, be sure to check out Wimbledon.com.

An easy run for Novak Djokovic just got easier with the elimination of Tomas Berydch. Few others in Section 1 are anywhere close to the level of the top player in the world. Similarly, Roger Federer should be able to handle Section 2.

Section 3 provides some interesting drama with three top-10 players all fighting to reach the semifinals. Andy Murray will be playing in front of the home crowd in London, but David Ferrer recently defeated him at the French Open.

In addition, Juan Martin del Potro looms in the bracket. He is the only person to win a Grand Slam tournament since 2005 besides Federer, Nadal and Djokovic.

Rafael Nadal should have a relatively easy run to the quarterfinals. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga has the potential to give the Spanish native some trouble, but an upset is unlikely.

The women's side of the tournament is more wide open, but Maria Sharapova had a fortunate draw that should at least put her to the semifinals.

Serena Williams and Petra Kvitova look like they will meet in the quarterfinals of Section 3, and that should provide one of the most entertaining early matches of the entire championship.

Day 3 Matches to Watch For

For the full Day 3 schedule, be sure to check out Wimbledon.com.

The Centre Court has two stars to watch starting at 1 p.m.. Roger Federer will face Fabio Fognini, while Novak Djokovic will battle American Ryan Harrison.

While these do not have the upset appeal of some other matches, it is always nice to see great competitors playing at their best.

A potential sleeper in the women's bracket, former No. 1 Kim Clijsters, competes against Andrea Hlavackova. When Clijsters has competed, she has done well. She looks to build off of an impressive opening-round win over Jelena Jankovic.

Li Na is another competitor to keep your eye on. She battles Sorana Cirstea at 11:30 a.m. in what should be a solid match.
