And all eyes are sure to be on Phelps especially considering this may be the last time we see the champion swimmer in the Olympic games. According to BBC News, Phelps is set to retire after the summer Olympics in London this year. This will be his “fourth and final Olympics...he has indicated he’ll enter six or seven events.”

Because this upcoming worldwide event will be the last event of his career, everyone will be waiting to see what Phelps does in the pool to leave his mark. After the Beijing Olympics in 2008, Phelps struggled in the pool, neglecting his training and tendency to win.

But now he’s back and ready. According to the BBC article, Phelps seems even more excited to be back in the water and back in major competition. He is ready to clinch a few more Olympic medals and end his career on a high note.

The news headlines about Phelps finishing second to Lochte is only the beginning. The two great American swimmers are sure to be the stars of the Olympics for all US sports fans. Both men have qualified for the London Olympics. They are rivals in the pool and friends out of the pool.

Regardless of who takes which place when it comes time for the big events, Phelps’ final Olympic games will be focused on him. And should Phelps come in first anywhere, you can be sure that he will always be first in the headlines. Phelps is captivating because of who he is. Swimmers will always be compared to him, and his style of swimming and athleticism will continually be recognized.

With his final Olympic games and a comeback to claim, Phelps will again be the center of attention...for one last time.
