Real Madrid Transfer News: Luka Modric Must Ignore Ivanovic's Pleas to Snub Real

Jessica MarieJun 7, 2018

It makes sense for Branislav Ivanovic to urge Luka Modric to ignore Manchester United and Real Madrid during the transfer window in favor of joining Chelsea.

It just doesn't make sense for Modric to heed that advice.

Last week, the Daily Mail reported that the Tottenham star is ready to leave his current team, and Real Madrid is his preferred destination.

The 26-year-old plans to tell the club of his plans to leave this week, and in the meantime, Real Madrid is masterminding a deal that could be worth up to £30 million in order to obtain him.

But if Ivanovic has anything to do with it, Modric won't count out this year's Champions League winners just yet. His club was interested in Modric last summer, and is so again. The only thing standing in Chelsea's way seems to be Modric's affinity for Real.

In an effort to compel the star to spurn Real's offers and consider Chelsea, Ivanovic told the Daily Mail this week:

"

He would fit in quickly and strengthen the squad. He has been in England a long time and knows about the way football is played on the island and the mentality of the players. He has exceptional quality, and moving to a bigger club is necessary for him to take the next step in his career. I think at Chelsea he would adapt instantly and become a better player. He should come to Chelsea—it won't go wrong!

"

While the Blues obviously want something from Modric—that being a superstar playmaker—they have something to offer him as well: the chance to win. In May, Chelsea took down Bayern Munich in Bayern's home stadium in the Champions League final, and with Didier Drogba on his way out, the Blues need someone else to step in and replace his offense.

If they get Modric, the transition could be seamless.

But then there's Real, which offers Modric a similarly good, if not better, chance of winning. This is a team that has won 32 La Liga titles, including one in 2011-12, and it has established itself as one of the league's most dominant, most consistent clubs. It finished with 100 points last season and a record 121 goals scored with a differential of plus-89.

This team may not have won the Champions League this year—it fell in the semifinals at the hands of Bayern—but Modric could very well be the missing piece it needs to get the job done next year.

By all indications, this is the perfect match, Ivanovic's pleas aside. Modric should stick with his favorite.
