Manchester United Transfer News: Why Mats Hummels Isn't Coming to Old Trafford
Manchester United have been superb throughout the transfer window so far but despite reports suggesting otherwise, German defender Mats Hummels will not be making a move to Old Trafford this summer.
According to Talksport, United have taken a great liking to the 23-year-old as he continues to impress for his national team at Euro 2012 and are likely to increase their interest after the completion of the tournament.
The Red Devils have every right to be impressed by Hummels so far at Euro—he has shown assurance and confidence at the back right throughout the tournament.

But there is no way in the world that Hummels will be transferring to Manchester this summer.
No way.
First off, this is Manchester United we're talking about. Given their notoriety, prestige and status in world football, they're likely to be linked to any high-profile star who's available for transfer and shows an interest in moving to the English Premier League.
But the Red Devils are in no need for another centre-back—regardless of how competent he has been in four games for Germany so far.
As far as central defenders go, United are more than covered with Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in their starting side. Throw in to that mix the youthful Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans and another centre-back is clearly not necessary at Old Trafford next season.
Depth can be added in other areas—it doesn't need to be added at centre-back and Sir Alex Ferguson is no doubt aware of this.
Then there's fact that he's a Borussia Dortmund player—the same club from which United recently bought midfielder Shinji Kagawa.
After achieving the German double last season by winning the Bundesliga and the German Cup, Dortmund will be unlikely to part ways with another star player and even more unlikely to let them move to Old Trafford.
Thirdly, Spanish giants Barcelona are also rumored to be interested in Hummels and represent a better landing spot than Old Trafford does.
Considering all the depth and talent that United have at centre-back, Barcelona do have their defensive concerns with injuries. They were forced at times last season to play Eric Adibal and Javier Mascherano in replacement roles in defense, meaning that Hummels could be a needed replacement at Camp Nou.
After reportedly being priced out of a move for Milan's Thiago Silva and Athletic Bilbao's Javi Martinez, Barcelona's number one priority in the summer transfer window—central defender—could well be a role filled by the German defender.
Simply put, Hummels will not be coming to Old Trafford.
He ruled out a move to the English giants earlier in his career—stating that he feels good at Dortmund and has no need to move—and it seems that a similar response is in order this time around in the summer transfer window.
Hummels doesn't want to move, United don't need him, Dortmund are unlikely to let him go and Barcelona are sniffing around if they do—all pointing towards the inevitable outcome that the 23-year-old will not be coming to Old Trafford.
Oh, and he just extended his contract at the club until 2017.
That's not something you do unless you're planning on staying.
Sometimes transfer rumors can get a little out of hand, and that's what's happened with this one. Hummels is not moving to United and is unlikely to leave Dortmund at all over the summer.
I'd ignore this one—just another transfer rumor with little behind it.
