Wimbledon Tennis 2012: Dark Horses Who Will Challenge for Title in London

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

We all know about the Big Three of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. We also have a good idea about the top 10 players in the world. But what about the true dark horses at Wimbledon 2012?

There are still some candidates with low seeds who have the potential to challenge for the title this year in London. Some of them appear to be on the verge of big things.

Here's a look at three dark horse candidates at Wimbledon 2012, complete with seeds.

Milos Raonic (21)

Milos Raonic is nearly a consensus dark horse candidate—and for good reason. His serve can be almost unhittable at times.

Coming into Wimbledon, he led the ATP Tour with 533 aces in 35 matches. He also was first on Tour with 94 percent of service games won this year.

When you have the ability to take the racket out of a competitors' hands, you have the potential to do anything. Raonic, who is 22 years old, is 26-9 with two singles titles on the year.

Bernard Tomic (20)

Bernard Tomic is only 19 years old, but he's already playing at a high level.

His best finish in a major is Wimbledon in 2011, when he lost in the quarterfinals to none other than Novak Djokovic.

Given his age, he's a true dark horse, but this kid has exceptional talent. It's only a matter of time before he breaks through.

Tommy Haas

A former top-five player who reached the semifinals in 2009, Tommy Haas is back after winning the Gerry Weber Open.

Despite being 34 years old, his 7-5 (7-6), 6-4 victory over Roger Federer in Halle was impressive. He also beat Tomas Berdych in that tournament.

On top of that, he has plenty of motivation, playing for his one-year-old daughter, Valentina.
