TNA iMPACT! Slamback: A Family Divided

Ron JohnsonFeb 12, 2009

The show opens with highlights of this past Sunday’s Against All Odds. We also find out that Beer Money will defend the TNA Tag Team Championships against Rhino and Abyss. The show opens with the arrival of Kurt Angle and Sting.

Kurt Angle & Sting vs. Team 3D

Angle starts off the match with a series of punches, but Brother Ray gets control thanks to the Tree of Woe before tagging in Brother Devon. Angle basically picks up where they left off last week with Sting extending his hand for the tag and Angle ignoring the tag. After the wassup is delivered, Angle tags in Sting who jumps down and starts a shoving match with Angle. As the two prepare to get physical, the other members of the Mafia come down to prevent the physicality.

Back on the program, Sting is back in the ring fighting with Brother Ray. As Sting looks to tag in his partner, Kurt Angle drops off the ring apron. Sting continues the pressure and continues to try to tag in his partner, and again, Angle drops off the apron. A shoulder block stops the action for a brief moment. Brother Devon is brought in, but again, Angle drops off the apron, leaving Sting in the ring to fend for himself.

After the final diss from Angle, Sting tags him in and launches him over the top rope. As Sting and Angle shove each other, Angle is pushed over into Brother Devon to get the roll up and the win. After the bell, Angle and Sting decide that enough is enough. With that, they decide to beat the hell out of each other instead. The remaining members of the Mafia step in to break up the slugfest, but it doesn’t seem to be working. They stop the punches, but Angle has something to say.

Angle claims that he’s tried to be respectful to the Mafia for the past four days…but Angle decides that he is a disgrace to the Family. He starts to insult The Icon by claiming that he was supposed to lose on Sunday. He then tells Sting that at the end of the night, Sting will lay down and lose to Angle tonight. With that, Jeff Jarrett makes his return to the IMPACT Zone with a purpose. Jarrett comes in and denounces Angle’s deal for later on tonight. The TNA Founder makes it clear that Sting is the TNA World Heavyweight Champion. But Sting jumps on and says that he will indeed take Angle up on his offer.

Back on the program, Booker T tells JB that this had to be done. He says that Sting has no choice but to accept the consequences of his actions from Sunday. He then says that AJ Styles will be prosecuted tonight for “stealing” the TNA Legends Championship at Against All Odds. But as Booker goes into his dressing room, AJ Styles ambushes him and decimates the locker room. He sends him through the table before proclaiming to the Legends Champion that “I AM LEGEND!!” before walking out of the locker room.

During the break, Scott Steiner is going off about Samoa Joe right before his match with Petey Williams.

Scott Steiner vs. Petey Williams (No Disqualification, Mace on a Pole Match)

Petey tries to get early control, but Steiner decides to toss him over the top rope instead. Back in the ring, Steiner tries to keep control, but Maple Leaf Muscle continues to come back tougher than ever. Steiner continues the punishment with an Impaler from the top rope. As Steiner goes up top to get the mace, Williams blocks him and delivers a huge power bomb. Steiner goes for the pipe, but Williams grabs the pipe and drops his former mentor.

Steiner stops him in his tracks and drops him with a back slam to ground the young X Division superstar. Steiner then climbs up top and gets the mace to pick up the victory. But after the bell, Samoa Joe delivers another warning to Steiner: “You doesn’t know where or when, but when my Nation of Violence is ready, Joe’s Gonna Kill You.”

In the back, Mick Foley makes it clear that there is no controversy about the main event at Against All Odds.

Knockouts #1 Contender Gauntlet Match (Winner gets Knockouts Championship Match with Kong)

Angelina Love vs. Taylor Wilde vs. Velvet Sky vs. Morgan Rayne vs. Raisha Saeed vs. Sojourner Bolt vs. Rhaka Khan vs. Roxxi vs. ODB

The two rivals start slugging it out as the bell rings. Wilde gets control and delivers some punches as Velvet Sky makes her way down to the ring for her turn in the Gauntlet match. Sky comes in and saves her Beautiful People partner. Both ladies start beating up on the former Knockouts Champion as the clock reaches zero and Sojourner Bolt arrives to beat on TBP. All four men split up and start fighting each other.

Roxxi comes in and drops Bolt, Love and Sky. Kip saves Velvet Sky from elimination as TNA Newcomer Morgan Rayne makers her debut. Rayne continues to stave off elimination. Raisha Saeed makes her arrival into the Gauntlet match and goes straight after The Beautiful People. Again, Cute Kip saves his teammates from elimination as Rhaka Khan makes her way to the ring for her turn in this #1 Contender’s Match. As the ladies battle it out, the final member of this match, ODB, comes down and takes out all three members of the Kongtourage.

ODB has taken out Raisha Saeed and Rhaka Khan, while Angelina Love and Taylor Wilde both eliminate each other. On the other side, Roxxi takes out Velvet Sky, but SoJo takes out the Voodoo Queen. Bolt continues the momentum as she eliminates the former #1 Contender ODB, making it a one on one pinfall match between Sojourner Bolt and newcomer Morgan Rayne.

Sojo ends it with a huge Bolt Bomb to pick up the win and get the shot at Awesome Kong and TNA Knockouts Championship. In the back, Kurt Angle is getting ready for his match by smashing a photo of Sting against the lockers in the Mafia dressing room.

Following a TNA Rough Cuts discussing the X Division, the Motor City Machine Guns make their way to the ring.

The MC Guns vs. Lethal Consequences

Lethal and Chris Sabin start off this match with both teams showing why the X Division is such a phenomenal group. Lethal returns to the ring and drops Sabin with a little Poetry in Motion. Just when it looked that the Guns would get the win, Creed pushes Sabin on the pile. After the Lethal Combination, Black Machismo delivers the Truth or Consequences Bomb to pick up the win. But after the bell, the Guns deliver a low blow to both men and the Guns Salute before leaving the ring.

In the back, Jeff Jarrett is heading down from the rafters. He tells JB that we all will have to wait and see just like everyone else in regards to the TNA World Heavyweight Champion’s decision about Kurt Angle.

Back on IMPACT, ODB is having her weekly talk show with Brutus Magnus. Magnus again issues an open challenge to anyone on the TNA Roster. Back on the program, we get behind the scenes access to The Monster’s therapy sessions.

Monster Machine vs. Beer Money (TNA World Tag Team Championships)

The tag champions go on the early offensive but Abyss drops them quickly before tagging in The War Machine. Rhino straight up assaults Roode into submission. As Roode distracts the official, Jacqueline gets Rhino’s attention, and Storm shoves Rhino off the top rope. As the official holds back Abyss, Storm jumps down and pummels a prone War Machine.

Abyss manages to get in the ring, and decimates both members of Beer Money. Abyss manages to get the Shock Treatment, but the official gets tossed out of the ring. As the official tries to restore order on the outside, Matt Morgan comes in and drops Abyss with a steel chair shot. Storm crawls onto The Monster to get the win. Morgan comes in after the bell to drop Abyss again with another chair shot before being chased out of the ring by a chair wielding Rhino.

As TNA takes its final commercial break, Sting and Kurt Angle head down to the ring for their TNA World Heavyweight Championship Showdown.

Main Event

Kurt Angle vs. Sting (TNA World Heavyweight Championship Showdown)

Angle claims that he is the Godfather of the Main Event Mafia. He tells him that he has to make an example out of the current TNA World Champion. As Sting begins to lay down, he starts to question Angle’s integrity. He then questions the Olympic Champion’s honor. Sting lets him know that it was always about Kurt Angle.

As Sting continues the conversation, he lays down and tells him to steal his 13th World Title. Kurt gets his wish, but decides that he would rather fight him instead. The two exchange blows again, and Steiner and Nash come out to break up the fight. Angle makes it clear that next week, the two will battle it out one on one. He says that the entire arena will be cleared, and he intends to end Sting’s career.
