Top 5 UFC Wars

Anthony FuscoJun 25, 2012

Some UFC fighters are boring and only want to lay and pray for a decision. Some run from their opponents in the cage.

But every so often, two fighters engage in what becomes a fan-pleasing war. Some fighters have it in them from the beginning and some don't know until the war is over.

That's what makes the fight so entertaining and special.

These are my top five picks for UFC fights that turned into wars.

5. Sam Stout vs. Spencer Fisher

1 of 5

In the co-main event of UFC on FX 4, Sam Stout and Spencer Fisher finally settled their trilogy of fights dating back to 2006.

Sam Stout won the first fight by split decision, but Fisher avenged that loss with a unanimous decision win in 2007.

Sam Stout won the final meeting between the two with a unanimous decision after showcasing some new wrestling skills.

All three of these fights were fast paced and exciting, and provided the fans exactly what they want in a UFC fight.

4. Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber 2

2 of 5

Cruz and Faber have a rivalry.

It's not secret that these two men dislike each other very much, so the UFC matched them up for a title fight and the rest is history.

This fight went the full five rounds with Cruz winning in the end.

This fight really showcased the bantamweights and proved that they could headline a card, and put on an exciting fight. The fans were treated to flying knees, head kicks, and a constant never quick mentality displayed by both fighters.

If Faber beats Barao at UFC 149, a rematch should be in the future between these two diehard competitors.

3. Diego Sanchez vs. Martin Kampmann

3 of 5

Any fight with Diego Sanchez is basically guaranteed to be a war.

His fight against Martin Kampmann was no exception.

For three rounds, these guys beat each other to a pulp and by the end of the wild brawl, both were covered in bruises, cuts, and blood.

These guys put on a great fight for fans. It was also very controversial as Sanchez walked away with the victory that many felt belonged to Kampmann.

Here's hoping we see these two warriors fight again one day as they know how to put a on show.

2. Dan Henderson vs. Shogun Rua

4 of 5

The picture on this slide says it all.

Two PRIDE legends who were supposed to fight years ago finally got a chance at UFC 139. I knew this fight was going to be good, but in the end, I was totally blown away.

Henderson and Rua put on one of the most exciting fights in UFC history. It had excellent back-and-forth action from each man.

There were power punches, kicks, ground and pound, the works. Two legends duked it out and the real winners were the fans.

This fight would be first on the list except for....

1. TUF 1 Finale Forrest Griffin vs. Stephen Bonnar

5 of 5

To this day, this is the best UFC fight I have ever seen.

I've seen hundreds of matches, but nothing compares to this fight between TUF finalists Forrest Griffin and Stephen Bonnar.

This is one of the most exciting and memorable fights in not only the UFC, but of MMA in general.

Dana White called this fight "The most important fight in UFC history."

This is the fight that brought the UFC and MMA to the attention of fans. This helped break new ground and expand the UFC.

If there's a fight every single fan should see, I recommend this one with no hesitation. Both fighters embodied the true meaning of warriors when they engaged in the best UFC fight ever.
