Anthony Davis: Latest Buzz Surrounding NBA's Brightest Future Star

Ian HanfordJun 7, 2018

Anthony Davis is the most ballyhooed recruit in this year's NBA draft crop. His potential and hype are limitless at this point.

With the draft just days away, it's no longer about "who" to pick if you're the New Orleans Hornets. It's about who to surround Davis with. The Hornets acquired Rashard Lewis from the Wizards in exchange for Emeka Okafor and Trevor Ariza, but that's not nearly enough.

Let's take a look at the newest buzz surrounding the next New Orleans Hornets player.

No More Okafor

According to ESPN's Andy Katz, Davis was looking forward to pairing up with Okafor:

"

Anthony Davis told me post lottery that he was looking forward to learning from Emeka Okafor. Davis no longer has veteran to lean on.

Davis would have benefited from Okafor's veteran tips and pointers, but the young stud is more than capable of handling himself.

It is interesting to see the Hornets trade for an overpaid sharpshooter instead of keeping Ariza's athleticism and Okafor's interior presence, but it is what it is.

Davis will be just fine either way.

Celebrity Status

Being the No. 1 overall pick comes with a certain sort of fame. Davis is going to start living that lifestyle before the draft even begins.

According to Kentucky Athletics, Davis will enjoy two television appearances Monday night:

"

.@AntDavis23 will be on Jim Rome's show at 6 p.m. on CBS Sports Network, then on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" at 12:35 a.m. on NBC.

— Kentucky Athletics(@UKAthleticsNews) June 25, 2012"

Davis has been in the spotlight since he stepped foot on Kentucky's campus. His fame rose as the season rolled along, and his No. 1 status is doing nothing to slow that momentum.

He will get a chance to create his public persona off the court on Monday night.

Elite Representation

According to Yahoo! Sports' Pat Forde, Wasserman Group will represent Anthony Davis in the NBA:

"

To the guy who told me weeks ago that Anthony Davis was a done deal for Arn Tellem: good tip. Wasserman Group gets #1 pick.

— Pat Forde (@YahooForde) June 18, 2012"

Wasserman Group is among the world's largest sports agencies. They represented Andrew Luck in the NFL draft, and they recently represented Carlos Correa in the MLB draft. Their reputation is major, and Davis knows they can handle star-caliber players.

Signing an agent is a pivotal choice for a young star. He has to be represented correctly, fairly and efficiently. Tellem and his associates will do a great job in this situation.
