To Trade Or Not To Trade... What Are the Sixers Options
With the All-Star break right around the corner, that means that the NBA trade deadline is coming up quick. With the Sixers shut out of All-Star weekend (with the exception of Thaddeus Young), they should be working the phones trying to get something done.
The main player that should be included in trade discussions would be Andre Miller. Miller is coming into the last year of his contract and most likely will not re-sign with the Sixers. I would like to see him back, but chances of that happening are slim.
There would be plenty of teams that would line up for the chance to take Andre Miller off of the Sixers hands. Whether it would be a championship contender, or a team looking to knock off some salary going into next season, the line for Andre Miller should be long.
The perfect plan for the Sixers, and any Sixers fan, would be to deal Miller to the New Jersey Nets. Considering that GM Ed Stefanski came from New Jersey, and that the Nets are making it extremely obvious they want to shed salary, a trade with them makes perfect sense.
The main player that would be key in this deal is Devin Harris. Granted, they just traded for him last season, but they are looking to continue to dump salary. Harris is signed on for another five years and makes a decent amount of money during that time period. So why not package Harris and two other players and send them to the Sixers for Miller?
What this move would do is give the Sixers their run and gun PG. He’s a guy that wouldn’t hesitate to pull up from three, or drive to the basket. He is a stellar defender and also a great floor general on offense. He’s also young and he would be around for years to come with the already young nucleus of Young, Iguodala, Speights and Lou Williams.
The whole Devin Harris deal would be a dream come true if it were to happen, but it is extremely unlikely that the Nets will actually go for it. So if Andre Miller cannot be shopped, then what? Where do the Sixers turn to next?
If Andre Miller cannot be shopped for a young PG, the whole team should just stand pat. They still can be a team that can compete with the best of them because they have another year under their belts. They are only a half game out of being in the fourth seed, and they have been playing their best basketball as of late.
So we’ll see what happens. It would be great if when February 19 came around, Devin Harris was wearing a Sixers uniform. Then again, I would not be upset if they stood their ground and play with what they have been given.
