Liverpool Transfer Rumors: Signing Fabio Borini Is Vital to Reds' Attack

Ian HanfordJun 7, 2018

If the Liverpool Reds want to contend in the English Premier League this season, they must bring a fresh face to their attack.

According to James Raich of The Guardian, the Reds are eying 21-year-old Italian Fabio Borini

"

Brendan Rodgers is hoping to agree a minimum £10m deal for the Roma striker Fabio Borini this summer, having coached him as a youngster at Chelsea and having signed him on loan at Swansea.

Rodgers' prior association with Borini makes the addition even more intriguing. He understands the attack, and his experience with Roma gives him experience against top-shelf competition.

Let's take a look at Borini's skill set and why he is vital to Liverpool's EPL dreams next season.

Borini's Abilities

As a striker for Roma this season, he scored nine goals in 24 games.

His main asset is his quickness and vision in the open field. With the ball at his feet, he is capable of breaking down a defense and creating his own opportunity.

He's a skilled passer, and he plays unselfish football. Liverpool's supporting players are capable, and they would benefit from his distribution.

If you give Borini an inch, he has a wonderful long-range shot. If you overstep, he uses his explosive first step to penetrate the defense.

Last year, Liverpool finished eighth on the EPL table. They only managed to score 47 goals all year. Borini's precise shooting would be an expert addition.

Why the Reds Need Borini

Like I said, Liverpool's offense was barely relevant last season. Luis Suarez led the side with 11 goals, but no one else had more than four.

Suarez, even on his best day, needs help.

Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea all have dangerous attacks. If Liverpool wants to jump back in with the contenders, they must use their money wisely.

Borini, as Raich mentioned, would come at minimum expense. His youth and inexperience makes him affordable, but the Reds must take the risk.

Their offense doesn't have another choice.

Borini's a handful in every conceivable way. He's young, skilled and offensive-minded. The Reds need a shot in the arm, and he would provide that much-needed spark.
