WWE News: Mysterio's Suspension Over, Is a Big Push on the Horizon?

According to Wrestlezone, Rey Mysterio's 60-day suspension has ended and he is ready to return:

Today marks the official end of Rey Mysterio's 60-day suspension.

F4Wonline.com is reporting that the plan is for Mysterio to return next week to television. Reportedly, Mysterio will return to a big push likely leading to a SummerSlam match.

Don't get me wrong, I like Rey Mysterio. I think he's been one of WWE's most consistent workers, he's an underrated promo guy (even if his mic work can be repetitive, he can always infuse emotion and sincerity), and he's always someone you can put the "underdog" tag on and play up as a feel-good story (despite being a two-time world champ).

However, I think the time has come and gone for Rey to be getting big pushes.

It's not that he can't do it anymore; it's that he shouldn't do it. Rey is getting up there in age (he's 37), his knees are pretty much shot, and he has had a contentious relationship with WWE management for a few years now due to both substance abuse suspensions as well as contract issues.

Is he really the right guy to be pushing at this point in his career?

I think that, once Rey does return, they may want to give him something important to do so his mood doesn't tank (remember, despite getting on in years, he's still incredibly over and marketable), but only to a certain point.

Remember, Mysterio is one wellness strike away from getting canned (and, unlike Orton, I could see them cutting Mysterio loose), so WWE would be unwise to give him any kind of major storyline that could be cut short at a moment's notice.

It would seem that the better option would be for Rey to take part in a big-time feud, but only if it's alongside someone newer who could be the ultimate recipient of a big push by going over an established star like Mysterio.
