Wimbledon Tennis 2012: Novak Djokovic Won't Be Stopped in His Quest to Repeat

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

By the end of Wimbledon 2012, Novak Djokovic will have won an unprecedented fifth major out of the last seven. Nole is not going to be denied.

While Djokovic isn't destroying opponents at the same rate as he was last year, he is still in great form, and his game is wonderfully suited for the grass courts at Wimbledon.

At the speedy grass courts featured at Wimbledon, there is an added emphasis to serving. Big servers will always have a nice advantage here. Djokovic has a nice serve, but it isn't dominant, and it isn't the strength of his game.

What he does have, however, is an absolutely fabulous return game. Djokovic is so good on the return that he can turn a player's greatest strength against him. No one is better prepared to steal breaks here than Nole.

Djokovic's inevitable dominance at this tournament is certainly not going to hinge on his return game. His overall technical mastery and precision will lead the way. Nole can hit winners from any and all angles. He also has the speed to chase down shots, and the determination that gives him an edge in any rally.

Djokovic will cruise into the later rounds of this tournament before he is tested, and the top contenders will not be able to take him down.

Yes, Rafael Nadal has passed the mental barrier that the new and improved Djokovic has held over him, and he even defeated him in the last major at the French, but that was on Nadal's preferred clay surface.

As well as Rafa is playing, he does not have the game to take down Djokovic on grass. On surfaces like this, Nole finds a way to pound Nadal's backhand and wear him down.

The contender that poses the biggest challenge to Nole here is actually Andy Murray. Not long ago, these two waged in epic battle in the semis at the Australian Open. Djokovic won, 6-3, 3-6, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 7-5, but in the process, Murray proved he could hang with Djokovic.

However, you are betting on a wing and a prayer if you are hoping Murray can finally cross that hurdle and take down Djokovic at a major.

Novak has no equals at Wimbledon right now, and he will prove that again this year.
