Wimbledon 2012 TV Schedule: Must-See Round 1 Matches

Richard LangfordJun 7, 2018

There are going to be plenty of great matches at this year's Wimbledon, and there will even be some in Round 1.

While the early rounds typically prove to be nothing more than tune-ups for the top players, there are a few matches involving some stars that offer plenty of reasons to tune in.

Here are three Round 1 matches that will be worth your time, and below is a list of when and where to catch all the action on your television.

Andy Murray (4) vs. Nikolay Davydenko

Murray has reached three consecutive semifinals at Wimbledon, and if anyone is going to crack the reign of dominance in majors by Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, the smart money is on Murray.

Murray has been struggling with back issues, but he has reportedly looked strong in recent workouts

We should all get a great feel for Murray in this opener. He shouldn't have too hard a time advancing past Davydenko, and if he does, it is a terrible sign for his chances at making a deep run.

Serena Williams (6) vs. Barbora Zahlavova Strycova

Serena was once the unquestioned favorite on the women's side at Wimbledon, but her struggles at the French have left many to speculate that her days of winning Grand Slam events is over.

Still, it is far too early to count Serena completely out of contention. After all, she is 28-3 this year, and has two titles under her belt.

Serena should cruise easily in this first-round match, and if she doesn't, we can take it as a sign that she will not be winning this event.

Novak Djokovic (1) vs. Juan Carlos Ferrero

Djokovic isn't likely to be tested in this match as he starts off his quest to defend his Wimbledon crown, but it will be fun to watch if Ferrero can recapture some of the form that once made him the world's No. 1 player and saw him win the 2003 French Open.

Djokovic also has an amazing tendency to get in epic matches, so the possibility remains that this one could start off Wimbledon with a bang.

Even if it doesn't, it is always a joy to watch Djokovic on the court.
