UFC 147 Facebook Prelims: Wagner Campos Is One to Watch from Early Bouts

Brian MaziqueJun 7, 2018

Wagner Campos is the most intriguing fighter competing in the Facebook Prelims at UFC 147 on Saturday night. Campos will compete in one of two early bouts on Facebook via live stream.

You'll have to go here and download the free app to watch.

Campos will do his best to make it worth your while. I've seen him fight twice, and I've been impressed with his all-around skills. He has decent power, though not earth-shattering, as well as a solid ground game, and he utilizes accurate and effective kicks.

The 5'6", 135-pound bantamweight will take on Marcos Vinicius Borges Pancini. In case you're wondering, no, this is not a handicap match—that's one dude.

Campos has an MMA record of 11-3, but this is the first most UFC fans will have seen of him. He needs to make a solid impression, and his fighting generally lends itself to a good show.

Check out this highlight reel of Campos from the different promotions leagues he's competed in:

Pancini will be a good test for Campos. He is experienced, with 23 MMA bouts, and he's known as a solid ground fighter. This will test the discipline and patience of Campos. He is the type of fighter that wants to make the big splash by landing the massive strike.

He'll take chances to score the wow victory. His posturing loosely reminds me of BJ Penn, though he's not as talented.

It'll be interesting to see how he handles himself against an experienced grinder like Pancini.

Campos won his last bout, but has lost two of his last three, this per Sherdog.com. At 30 years old, if he is going to make any noise in the UFC, it needs to start now.

Both men are Brazilians, so they should each have their supporters in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.

Campos is clearly the fighter with the most upside here, and it'll be interesting to see what he does with this opportunity and whether these two can help give this weak card a strong start.

I'm picking Campos to score a clear decision based on striking ability, and I think we'll see him again in the UFC. Here is a look at the full card:
