Wimbledon 2012: Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic Destined to Clash in Semifinals
Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic haven't been able to avoid one another lately in the semifinals of major championships, and they're set up to do so again at Wimbledon.
The crazy part of this equation is that the draws at major championships are supposed to be random, but there's nothing random about the way these two are drawn together on a regular basis.
Since 2008, these two dynamos have met in the semifinals at majors eight times, and they have met in the semis in five of the last seven times, according to ATPWorldTour.com.
They must be getting sick of seeing one another across the net.
Lately, Djokovic has been dominating the rivalry, winning four of the last five times. He's younger, faster and more energetic than the aging Federer, and if they do end up meeting again this year at Wimbledon, I see this trend continuing.
Federer has won at Wimbledon six times in the past, and he's one of the best hard-court players of all time. He hasn't won there since 2009, though, and his time as a dominant player is winding down.
These two men aren't guaranteed to meet this year, as they'll both need to get to the semifinals first. They have favorable draws, though, and it will be a huge shock if either one is defeated before this inevitable clash.
On the other side, Rafael Nadal looks to have an easy road to the semifinals, where he is set to meet up with Andy Murray.
This year's Wimbledon Championship is going to be filled with drama, and I look forward to the opening matches when they kick off on June 25, 2012.
