Podcast of the Week: Tony Barnhart and Tim Brando Talk About the Playoff
Every Friday we bring you a college football podcast of the week. Whether it is an independent show or the audio from a radio spot, there is a lot going on in the audio world of college football. This week we give you the nuts and bolts of the playoff from one of college football's most reputable sources.
We're going back to the video well this week as Tony Barnhart, also known as Mr. CFB, made a stop by the Tim Brando Show to talk about the happenings from the BCS meeting this Wednesday. When two of the more respected guys in the profession get together, it is wise to listen.
With all of the talk about the playoff coming, Barnhart joins Brando to hammer out the details. The most interesting tidbit in all of this is the discussion of the selection committee.
Everyone is weighing in on this point, and Barnhart makes an observation that most people have not: between the coaches and the Harris poll, the sport already had a sort of de facto selection committee. The problem is that committee was incredibly broken; people not watching games and the inherent conflict of interest that comes with voting for something that benefits yourself.
Being the old-school media guys that they are, both Barnhart and Brando kick around the idea of old-school writers and media members being on the committee. It is an interesting discussion, and as the Presidential Oversight Committee weighs in on the final decision we will get to watch the construction of the committee from the ground up.
