Hockey for Enlightenment: Deepak Chopra Shows Sean Avery the Way to Play

Martin AveryFeb 11, 2009

Sean Avery can go from being the NHL's No. 1 bad boy to a hockey hero the way a caterpillar transforms into a butterfly, or a moth.

"They do it by using their imaginal cells," says Deepak Chopra, bestselling author of Golf For Enlightenment, who made a guest appearance in the hockey movie called The Love Guru.

"It's like leaving your bike at a repair shop and picking up a jet a few days later."

Chopra has appeared on Oprah and encouraged people to form imaginal cells, or creativity groups, and hook up with other imaginal cells to create great change in the world.
There has been great change in the hockey world recently.

A month ago, hockey pundits called Sean Avery an idiot and predicted he would never play in the the NHL again. A day ago, hockey pundits called him an evil genius and predicted a comeback with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the AHL and then the New York Rangers of the NHL.

Now some say Sean Avery wll save the season for the rangers.

Avery in the role of saviour?

He is not exactly to hockey what Larry "Basketball Jesus" Bird was to his sport.

How did Avery go from zero to hockey hero? He was suspended indefinitely by the NHL and it turned  into six games but then he was not invited back to his team.

Two and a half months of anger management and reporters described Avery as "diplomatic."

Things happen. People change.

Avery's team, the Dallas Stars, got off to a slow start this season, but they've won seven of their last eight games and are heading for the playoffs.

The Stars looked dead but have risen from the depths to jump over eight playoff spots within the last month or so to claim the number five seed in the Western Conference of the NHL. The New York Rangers got off to a strong start but found themselves falling flat by the All-Star break.

The Stars beat the Rangers 10-2 recently.

Carey Price, Montreal Canadiens goalie once called Jesus Price, because he saves, had a bad season and is now in the dog house with his club.

Claude Lemieux retired, went to China, played in the Asian league, with the China Sharks, and is now back in the NHL.

Jaromir Jagr left the NHL for the KHL, the value of the ruble dropped dramatically, and now he's rumoured to be returning to the NHL with the Edmonton Oilers.

The USA had an unpopular, white, right wing, Republican from Texas as president, and now it's President Barack Obama.

The Toronto Maple Leafs won a lot of Stanley Cups until Canada's Centennial Year and now they say the Leafs won't win another Cup until hell freezes over.

But there's an old expression in the hockey world which goes "When hell freezes over, I'll play hockey there!"

Stay tuned: Deepak Chopra could teach Sean Avery how to meditate and he could go from villain to hockey hero.

Hell, the NHL could evolve and ban fighting!

Have you noticed the weather is weird and this winter, up north, has been incredibly cold? Maybe it's all happening!
