All LSU Fans Aren't Crazy, Things Could Be Looking Up!

To listen to LSU fans, Alabama was lucky to have beaten them in overtime, this season was just an aberration, and LSU is still one of the best programs in the nation, led by one of the best coaches by far.

OK, maybe the coach thing was going too far, but they may have a point and this could be the pivotal season that tells whether last season was a bump in the road or the end of the pavement for a while longer.

Alabama managed to use that big recruiting class last year to full advantage and went 12-0 in the regular season. 

They did that by riding momentum from a big bowl win and injecting some of that rookie talent.  LSU certainly is riding that same wave of momentum now and has some of that same kind of rookie talent now.

The question is, how well will they use that talent and how soon, and how far will they ride that wave? 

No SEC team put more players in the NFL than Tennessee over the last 15 years, but what did they have to show for it?  One national title and a couple of SEC titles. 

Nobody squandered more talent than Tennessee.  It will be up to LSU now to show that they have a coach and a program that can translate the talent into something special.

So while the coach may be crazy, the fans, or should I say the hopes and expectations of the fans may not be too crazy after all.

LSU seemed to have found both the feet and their QB in that big bowl win.  Up and down QB play was the thing that hurt them the most this past season, but in their bowl game, Jordan Jefferson looked like a seasoned pro and should start the season as the QB to beat for the starting job.

With the most exciting QB prospect since Perilloux, Russell Shepard will add a bit of excitement if he gets a chance to play this year.  Whoever is throwing the ball, Reuben Randall is sure to be catching a few of them and many other rookies may contribute too.

If LSU does not show improvement this year or next year to amount to an SEC Championship appearance, then I too will finally call them crazy and officially welcome them back to the mediocrity they enjoyed before Saban built them into winners. 

But let's cut them some slack for now and see how Les plays these new cards he's been dealt.
