SEC Football Top 150 Players: No. 70, Xavier Nixon, Florida OL
The SEC Blog will be counting down the top 150 players in the SEC every day, concluding on Aug. 30, at the start of the college football regular season.
70. Xavier Nixon, No. 73, Florida Offensive Tackle
2011 stats: Nine starts at left tackle
Strengths
Experience. Nixon is a seasoned veteran that has seen action in 33 games during his first three seasons in Gainesville. The 6'6", 309-pounder has the talent to be a star in the SEC and beyond, and working in pro-style offense for the second consecutive season should help him in 2012.
Weaknesses
Inconsistency has plagued Nixon during his first three seasons. He was named to several SEC All-Freshman teams in 2009, but weight issues have hampered him the last two seasons. He seemed to get in his own head at times in 2011, which contributed to Florida's woes along the offensive line.
2012 Prediction
Nixon is still battling Chaz Green for the starting spot, and it's not set in stone that he will be in the starting lineup when toe meets leather this fall. Competition breeds success, and if Nixon is successful in 2012, he will have to earn it. That's a good thing, if you're a Gator fan.
