Alabama Football: An 80's Theme Song for 7 Bama Players
HUMOR--Superheros and professional boxers get their own theme songs, so why can't college football stars? It will never happen, but it's fun to relate antiquated pop songs to your favorite athletes.
The off-season is a dark time for college football fans and I'm looking to provide a bit of comedy for the Alabama faithful who would rather be watching the games as opposed to reading about what may or may not happen in the fall.
As a fan of 80's music I just couldn't help thinking of certain songs when I saw the following eight Crimson Tide players in action.
This is a humor piece, and I hope you get a kick out of it.
WR DeAndrew White
1 of 7Theme song: Jump - Van Halen
DeAndrew White doesn't rock some serious locks, but the chorus of this song is all about him.
White has one incredible vertical and can jump over just about any defender.
This guy can roll with the punches.
Oh, and he can jump.
LB Nico Johnson
2 of 7Theme song: Welcome to the Jungle - Guns N' Roses
Alabama's box is where Nico Johnson stalks his prey, and when he's on the field it looks a lot like a frightening jungle.
Here is what Johnson should say to opposing running backs before the snap:
"You know where you are? You're in the jungle baby, you're gonna DIE".
S Vinnie Sunseri
3 of 7Theme song: Hungry Like the Wolf - Duran Duran
When Vinnie Sunseri made waves on special teams in 2011, he played like a wolf that had not eaten in a week.
"I'm on the hunt, I'm after you" seems to be Sunseri's M.O.
DT Jesse Williams
4 of 7Theme song: Land Down Under - Men at Work
This song is about a guy from Australia who is away from his homeland.
That's Jesse Williams.
He is also six-foot-four and full of muscle, and probably likes Vegemite sandwiches as well.
RB Eddie Lacy
5 of 7Theme song: You Spin me Round - Dead or Alive
Eddie Lacy likely has the best spin-move in the entire country and just can't be touched.
But he's not a small guy. At 220 lbs. he is a slab of meat that spins like none other.
QB A.J. McCarron
6 of 7Theme song: Under Pressure - Queen and David Bowie
A.J. McCarron entered the 2011 season with many wondering if he should even be the starter.
He will be expected to carry a young defense as a national championship MVP quarterback in 2012.
McCarron also faces the most rabid defenses in the country from the SEC.
That's a lot of pressure.
C Barrett Jones
7 of 7Theme song: Bust a Move - Young MC
Barrett Jones has some pretty sick moves for a guy that weighs over 300 lbs. That's why he won the Outland Trophy, I suppose.
A portion of the lyrics is what really gets me and makes me think of Jones:
"But you're standin' on the wall like you was Poindexter...But then you ate so much you nearly split your pants".
Jones is incredibly smart and plays like a champ, but with his typical offensive lineman's gut he looks like he ate too much.
But he can bust a move.
