Novak Djokovic: Djoker Should Be Favored at Wimbledon Despite French Open Loss
Novak Djokovic finally stumbled in a Grand Slam final, but don't expect his French Open troubles to follow him to Wimbledon.
After losing the two-day final at Roland Garros, as well as his bid to hold all four major titles at the same time, Djokovic should be highly motivated on the grass courts at the All England Club.
Djoker faced plenty of adversity at the French Open, being taken to five sets by Andreas Seppi and having to save four consecutive match points against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Then, in a final match that had major historical implications for both players, Djokovic was dominated early by Nadal and his frustration was clearly visible.
He came back to make the match interesting, but he couldn't dethrone the French Open king. Despite that loss, however, I love Djokovic's chances at Wimbledon.
Nadal is certainly his biggest threat next week, and until they played on what is basically Rafa's home court, Djokovic had been destroying the Spaniard. He beat Nadal seven times in a row, including victories in the Wimbledon, U.S. Open and Australian Open finals.
He knows he can beat Nadal on the biggest stages, so he should be very confident heading into Wimbledon. He should also be feeling loose, as the immense pressure of the "Novak Slam" is no longer resting on his shoulders.
Djokovic was clearly affected by the weight of trying to complete the calender year Grand Slam. He can now just focus on each match in front of him, rather than worrying about his place in the history books.
There are several legitimate obstacles in front of him, but given his incredible talent level and hopefully clear head, I'm picking Djokovic to win his second straight Wimbledon title.
