NHL Free Agents 2012: Top Wingers Who Will Play for New Teams Next Season

Tim KeeneyJun 19, 2012

The 2012 NHL free agent class is a deep one, especially at the wing position.

While plenty of the top available players will stay with their current teams, many will find themselves in new uniforms next season.

Let's take a look at the best wingers who will be playing for new teams in 2012-13.

Alex Semin, Washington Capitals

The 28-year-old Semin is a terrific goal-scoring talent, something he's shown throughout his career with the Capitals.

However, his 49 goals over the last two years, after scoring 40 in 2010 and 2009, will likely have Washington a little hesitant about re-signing the young star.

Semin saw his role with the Caps diminish this season, especially as the year went on and in the playoffs. It would be extremely surprising to see Washington pay him the contract he will likely demand.

The six-year pro could stay in Washington if he took a smaller contract, but that is unlikely.

Brian Rolston, Boston Bruins

Rolston proved he still has something left with the tank in a reunion this season with the Bruins, as he netted three goals and dished out 12 assists in just 21 games.

Still, if the 39-year-old decides he wants to continue playing in the NHL, it's unlikely that Boston will have room for him. The Bruins have lots of moves to make this offseason, and they would be better served handing over a few spots to some younger talent.

Rolston could certainly land back with Boston; it's just likely that the Bruins will explore other options first. That may be enough for him to sign somewhere else.

Kristian Huselius, Columbus Blue Jackets

The 33-year-old Huselius has always had plenty of play-making talent, but he just hasn't been able to stay healthy the last two years.

When he's healthy, he can produce in a big way, as evidenced by his 60 points in 74 games in 2010.

While the Blue Jackets may give up on the veteran from Sweden, look for a contender to take the risk on Huselius.
