SEC Football Top 150 Players: No. 72, Odell Beckham, Jr., LSU WR
The SEC Blog will be counting down the top 150 players in the SEC every day, concluding on Aug. 30, at the start of the college football regular season.
72. Odell Beckham, Jr., No. 3, LSU WR
2011 stats: 41 catches for 475 yards and two touchdowns, two carries for 19 yards
Strengths
Beckham had a respectable season as a true freshman in 2011, despite not having a reliable quarterback delivering him the ball. He finished second on the Tigers in receptions and receiving yards. At 5'11", 183 lbs, he has a knack for finding holes in the defense and making plays after the catch.
Weaknesses
He's not a big target and may be destined for No. 2 receiver status in Baton Rouge. Beckham is still a work-in-progress thanks to inconsistent quarterback play last season. We will know more about him this year as long as junior quarterback Zach Mettenberger can keep opposing defenses honest.
2012 Prediction
I expect a big season from Beckham in 2012, even if he is still the No. 2 option. The Tiger passing game was woefully inept last season, but with Mettenberger under center, things should improve in 2012. He should get more chances downfield, which will translate to an increase in receiving yards.
