Fed Up of Driving in Circles, Honda Fans? Me Too!
I thought long and hard about this article; was there any point in writing it? Was there any worthy progress to report? Does anyone care anymore?
Ok so I’m not selling you my article very well am I? Basically the only news is that: first, Beumi has been confirmed as Torro Rosso number two, (thus apparently leaving Jenson’s only hope of a drive with Honda).
Secondly, Max Moseley has reportedly stated that he reckons Honda will be on the 2009 grid and finally, today we hear that DC has stated that if Jenson doesn’t get a drive this year he probably won’t get one again. Is it just me or isn’t all of the above either pointless information? Or stuff we already know!?
I remember ages ago writing that Jenson had stated that it was Honda or nothing. So why did so many writers jump on the fact that now that Torro Rosso were sorted Jenson’s hopes were dashed? If he had no intention of driving for them why would he care if their seat was filled or not? As a die hard Honda fan I am getting increasingly fed up with the lack of information, and the fact that when we get something, it’s pretty useless.
In reading about Max Mosley’s statement I did learn that apparently, from having 12 positive offers, Honda’s hopes seem now to lie with a managerial buyout; but other than that I learnt nothing.
In fact Mosley was quoted as saying, "I have no inside knowledge but my feeling from all the circumstances is that [the team has a 70% chance of turning up to race at Melbourne]." So just to clarify, he doesn’t know any more than us! So why even bother reporting it?
Finally, whilst I was carrying out my BBC motor sport check I came across an article stating that DC fears for Button’s future. Given Jenson’s age (29), Coulthard believes that a missed year in the sport would almost inevitably mean the end of Button’s F1 driving career. Whilst it is nice to have an F1 driver, with "inside knowledge" tell us this…isn’t it obvious?
I know this reads like a rant, (but it kind of is). I’m just fed up with getting no answers and going around in circles. Yes, Jenson seems pretty screwed if Honda can’t get a new team together…we know that. Perhaps all we can truly do is keep our fingers crossed and wait for Melbourne.
