Boise State Football: 1 Word to Describe Each Game on the Broncos' 2012 Schedule

Martin SondermannJun 18, 2012

The 2012 college football season is quickly approaching, and if you are a diehard fan, the days can't move fast enough.

For Boise State, this season brings quite a few questions. Who will replace Kellen Moore? Who will be the players who replace that amazing defensive line? Can the Broncos pull off another amazing opening game win against a college football powerhouse?

All of these questions will be answered at some point in the 2012 season. However, until such time as this occurs, there can only be speculation and pontification.

On that note, let's look down the corridor of time and see if we can't get an overview of what is in store for the Boise State Broncos this season.

As we peer into the gaze of time, let us consider every game and a word that best describes each contest.

Mysterious

1 of 12

Game: Boise State at Michigan State

Date: Friday, August 31, 2012

Time: 6:00 p.m. (MST)

Bronco fans will be on pins and needles for this one. There will be so many unknowns, and it will make for a very mysterious opening.

In this game, fans will be able to finally see if it is a reloading year for Boise State or a rebuilding year. Those same fans will also get a look at a brand-new starting quarterback and various other positions that will be occupied by unfamiliar faces.

Anticipation

2 of 12

Game: Miami (Ohio) at Boise State

Date: Saturday, September 15, 2012

Time: 2:00 p.m. (MST)

No matter how the Michigan State game goes, Bronco fans will be in much anticipation for the home opener against Miami Ohio.

One of the reasons is because this game will be two weeks and a day after the Michigan State game, and that is a long time to wait early in the season for your favorite team to play.

Also, if the Broncos lose to the Spartans, fans will want to see a rebound. However, if the Broncos take down Michigan State, then fans will be foaming at the mouth to see an encore.

Either way, Bronco fans will be in a high level of anticipation for this one.

Crazy

3 of 12

Game: BYU at Boise State

Date: Thursday, September 20, 2012

Time: 7:00 p.m. (MST)

This game will be sold out, loud and crazy. Even though it will be a Thursday night game, it will be prime-time ESPN and the atmosphere will be electric.

You can expect the eardrums for any fan attending this game to be sore the next day.

Lonely

4 of 12

Game: Boise State at New Mexico

Date: Saturday, September 29, 2012

Time: TBA

New Mexico has struggled greatly in recent years as a football program. It did hire a new coach in Bob Davie, but one year is probably not enough to see a major turnaround.

This game probably won't have a huge crowd in the stadium, and as it stands now, it is the only Boise State game that will not be televised nationally.

It could make for a lonely day in New Mexico.

Unknown

5 of 12

Game: Boise State at Southern Miss

Date: Saturday, October 6, 2012

Time: TBA

Southern Miss had an excellent team last year, but it lost a majority of its starters on both sides of the ball. However, so did Boise State.

So, in looking down the road at this game, the word "unknown" seems to best describe it. It will be interesting to see how these two teams match up.

Of course, by this time in the season, it may be less unknown than it appears to be now.

Hill-less

6 of 12

Game: Fresno State at Boise State

Date: Saturday, October 13, 2012

Time: 1:30 p.m. (MST)

OK, maybe that's two words, but it makes one good point. This will be the first time in a very long time that Boise State will play Fresno State without Pat Hill as the Bulldogs head coach.

It will be intriguing to see how the Bulldogs do under their new head coach, but in a way, it will be weird not seeing Pat Hill barking on the sidelines.

Homecoming

7 of 12

Game: UNLV at Boise State

Date: Saturday, October 20, 2012

Time: 1:30 p.m. (MST)

Yes, it will be UNLV at homecoming for the Broncos. It doesn't appear to be much of a gamble, but you never know.

Last year, the Rebels gave Boise State all it could handle early on. The Broncos, however, are probably going to keep that in mind as they play before a homecoming crowd in Bronco Stadium.

Dangerous

8 of 12

Game: Boise State at Wyoming

Date: Saturday, October 27, 2012

Time: 1:30 p.m. (MST)

Last year, the Broncos beat the Cowboys and looked good doing it. This year, Wyoming will try to get some revenge.

The Cowboys went to a bowl last year and have several key players coming back, so they should be a good team in 2012. They will also be hungry for the Mountain West Conference championship, and the Broncos are one of the teams in their way.

This could be a good game in Laramie in late October, and it could be dangerous for the Broncos.

Partnership

9 of 12

Game: San Diego State at Boise State

Date: Saturday, November 3, 2012

Time: 8:30 p.m. (MST)

San Diego State is of course the Broncos' new travel partner in the Big East come 2013. So how does Boise State prepare for that partnership?

It schedules the sun-loving Aztecs to a Saturday night game in early November.

It should be a balmy 20 degrees come kickoff time, and it sounds like a great start to a beautiful friendship.

Distraction

10 of 12

Game: Boise State at Hawaii

Date: Saturday, November 10, 2012

Time: 5:00 p.m. (MST)

The Hawaii football team is not the same team it has been in past years, but it may not have to be. Whenever the Warriors play a home game, they have an instant advantage in that teams are often distracted by the islands.

The weather, the surf, the food and more can make heads turn and priorities shift. It can be a major distraction for visiting teams.

Trap

11 of 12

Game: Colorado State at Boise State

Date: Saturday November 17, 2012

Time: 1:30 p.m. (MST)

This is one of those games that could be labeled a "trap game." It will be the final game before the final showdown with Nevada.

The Nevada game could be for the Mountain West title, and Bronco fans are very familiar with Reno late in the season.

However, if the Broncos are poised to play for the title at Nevada the last week of the season, they better be on guard against Colorado State. The Rams should be better than they were last year, and if Boise State overlooks them, it could spell disaster.

Flashback

12 of 12

Game: Boise State at Nevada

Date: Saturday, December 1, 2012

Time: TBA

The last time the Broncos traveled to Reno, they saw their BCS hopes go wide right. Not once, mind you, but twice.

Last year, Boise State got its revenge at Bronco Stadium, but that victory was a bit flat. This season, however, you can expect the return to Reno to be electric and nerve-racking for the Bronco faithful.

It could be for the Mountain West title, and Bronco fans will be trying to overcome their post traumatic field goal disorder in the two weeks leading up to the season finale against the Wolf Pack.

Let's just say they will be hoping that history does not repeat itself.
