All three of the SEC teams that qualified for this year's College World Series will be in action on Saturday in Omaha, Nebraska, which means that the entire nation will get to witness first hand just how dominant the conference's baseball output has been this season.
Florida's junior catcher Mike Zunino was taken third overall in this year's MLB draft by the Seattle Mariners (the first college player selected). His Gators will enter the double elimination round with plenty to prove.
Here is what day 2 from Omaha has in store.
Arkansas Welcomes Inexperienced Kent State to CWS
The Golden Flashes have never played in the CWS, so their opening-round game with Arkansas on Saturday afternoon will be uncharted territory. Their opponent boasts a world of confidence as well, as Arkansas topped Baylor in three hard-fought games after dropping the first 8-1.
Kent State survived Oregon in the Eugene Super Regional, but they will need plenty of luck if they are to survive against Arkansas in Omaha. The Razorbacks won the Waco Super Regional despite scoring only seven runs in three games. Arkansas takes Game 1.
South Carolina Begins Path to Third Straight CWS Title Against Florida
The Gamecocks have won two consecutive CWS titles dating back to 2010. Their opening-round matchup with SEC rival Florida is a rematch of last summer's championship series, which South Carolina won in two games.
South Carolina won as a No. 4 seed in 2011, but they will be faced with the task of winning as the No. 8 seed in 2012. The top-seeded Gators will have their work cut out for them, however, as South Carolina has won 11 straight games in Omaha over the past two years. With that being said, I still like the Gators in Game 1.
